Back in 1982 whilst I was in the RAF I damaged my back in an accident in the radio bay. SSQ told me to make my own way there. An mate took me in his car. The MO looked at me, asked me what happened, gave me a handful of meds and told me to sleep on a mattress on the floor. Never even sent me to the hospital at RAF Wroughton 15 miles away for an x-ray or a specialist checkup.

I asked How I was supposed to get home and the response was, the same way you got to work. On my bicycle over a mile away. They generously let me use the phone to call my wife to collect me.

 

What did I get from the RAF?   SFA and a buggered up back.

 

Several years later after I came out I went to a review board and still got SFA and still have a permanently bugged back 40 years later.

You may be right, it depends on whether the person concerned has a strong mind, and how much they are suffering. Palliative care does not always cut the mustard.

Not everything. Math is provable. Certain theories like gravity and the earth rotating around the sun remain the same.

 

Co2 theory is clouded for many reasons. 1 long term cycles at play lasting thousands of years 2 solar variation 3 cloud feedback can be both positive and negative 4 role of oceans 5 el nino and la nina

 

Saying humans are mostly responsible is pie in the sky stuff. It's nothing more than a guess driven mostly by politics.

 

There are too many moving parts to put a definitive % on it. It could be anything from a tiny % to a higher percentage.

Didn't count those, voice, or 1 filming /3 pre-productions.  75ish not bad for any actor and most would love to work that much.  He didn't really do much for me, though can't say I've seen much of his work, or memorable anyway.  Good character actor, since not having much range, like so many.

 

Wouldn't watch or not watch a movie because he's was in it, but alway nice when he is.

Dont know if prolific makes you "great" . I will not deny he was in some massive films but if i was being a cxxnt not sure if they were great cos he was in them. Like Jason Statham i love the bloke and i cant be bothered doing the homework  but he has some serious runs on the board. History will decide whether he was "great" or not but he is certainly prolific. And again not having the blue with you sir but for some to say he was in over 100 films is just not true.

A tad nit picky eh? A tv movie is still a film, although a theatrical film is a movie released in theaters. So, he was in 73 films(movies) and a number of made for tv shows. All I was doing is pointing out a few films he made for the one who posted he didn't remember Hurt in any movies. It does say in IMDB his "filmography" by their definition

Na not picky just a lover of accuracy and verifiable facts. Your the one backpedalling. When i questioned it you even had the gall to post some bodgy imbd link that  clearly shows he wasnt in the 100 plus films you claimed. 73 is quite a number but it aint 100. Many people would love to claim they have a 100k in the bank but if they only got 73k most would agree they are a quite a way short. Not nit picky in that stat mate.

Again, IMDB, doesn't post "bodgy" links but facts about their filmography. It isn't gall my posting a link that shows how many movies and tv shows he's been in. When I first posted, I only guessed at the 100 movies he was in because I knew he was in quite a few, although I didn't know the exact amount until afterwards. This wasn't intended to do anything but point out that Hurt was in quite a few movies and shows when the poster said they didn't remember any films with him in them. That's all. Like you, I am a lover of facts and never state anything besides what's verifiable and don't make opinions on subjects. IMDB has him as an actor in over 100 movies,shows and films. I just put them into one group to tell the poster that he's been in a lot, and named a few off the top of my head. Not gall, just a point made.

Liked WH best in Altered States, Ken Russel's most left-field film and surely a GobaGlob-5 star-er. It was full of the hippie science of the day: talking dolphins, Carlos Castaneda-like mind transformation, isolation tanks.

 

It's a big cult film in Mexico. It suits their favorite plot of being transformed into a monster -and then saved by a good woman/saint. The same storyline pops up in Thai ghost soap operas.

 

Tremendous market in the historic district of Mex City where no film is too obscure to bootleg for $2.  Stuff like the uncut El Top or Buenel's documentaries. I got Andy Warhol's Trash the last time.

 

Vientiane used to have a store where if you were a repeat buyer, you could get 20 films for a $10 bill (must be in mint condition). Huge selection due to the French expat community, they had New Wave-everything. There was also a guy on the corner of Suk and Soi 11 who would get on his phone  to get you any title the next day for 50 baht.

 

The cream of bootlegs were Chinese, often in box sets like all the Kubrick films or Film Noir vol's one, two, and three. How was that ever a profitable business for anyone? It was prob some rich Chinese guy's hobby.

 

Anyone else here remember buying movies at Pan Tip Plaza?

In the 2000's, seems like yesterday,  I would walk up to the Hello Kitty stall full of fake stuff of course, and the guy would give a furtive look around then take you into his DVD shop behind a curtain. Those shops and big internet cafes came and went. 

I recall Bali had cassette shops back in the 80's too and they would have some strange best of compilations with added obscure tracks that seemed good at the time.
