pre-flight PCR test needed to fly out of Thailand (to Cambodia) and back to Thailand (from Cambodia)?

  • My Cambodian friend, who is on an MOU/non-LA visa is going home to visit family.
  • They have a work permit for Thailand.
  • They did not leave Thailand during COVID at all.
  • They have 2 vaccines and a 3rd booster - all from Thailand
  • They are flying from BKK to Phnom Penh on the 24th of this month (March 2022)
  • They are returning to BKK from Phon Penh on the 8th or 9th of next month (April 2022)

My assumption is that they still need a ThaiPass, however, it was unclear to me if they need pre-flight PCR tests before going to Cambodia and coming back from Cambodia. It's important not just because of the money saving aspect, but also because they live in the countryside, so they would need to go to Phnom Penh 2 days early and stay in a hotel in order to get the PCR results in time.

I heard that the pre-flight PCR is going to be scapped, but it's not clear to me if that means before leaving Thailand or before coming to Thailand, and when the requirement changes (March or April).

Thanks!!!

No test required to enter Cambodia

Pre-departure test will nto be required to return to Thailand from 1 April onwards. But they will need Thailand Pass and will be tested on their arrival back in Thailand

Fully vaccinated do not require a test to enter Cambodia

For reference regarding fully vaccinated:-

"Cambodia has adopted a policy of non-discrimination and is allowing travelers who have been inoculated with any type of vaccine to enter the country"

In my case, three jabs of Sinovac. No problems with Sinopharm.

I read very conflicting answers here. I am from Singapore. Fully vaxxed 3 doses with a medical cert from bkk for recovered patient. (Got jackpot arriving in bkk on 15th Feb). Doctor in bkk told me no need pre pcr. Just show medical cert going to Cambodia after 7 days. 14 days later, was turn away from bkk airport, for not having pre pcr. Said Cambodia dont give <deleted> about covid recovered patients. Had to take an express pcr for 4,700baht to catch an evening flight on the same day.

Upon arrival in Phnom Penh, take an antigen test. Before taking, I showed the medical cert to medic officer. No deal..Take your antigen here. Thats my personal experience 2-3 weeks ago.

In summary, pre pcr required from bkk to pp. Thaipass and pre pcr back from pp to bkk.

Yes, that would have been the case. Now no pre-flight test and no test on arrival if you are fully vaccinated.

The easing of entry requirements for Cambodia commenced on March 17 2022 - 6 days ago.

PHNOM PENH, March 17 (Reuters) - Cambodia on Thursday dispensed with a requirement for visitors from overseas to take COVID-19 tests, as the country moved ahead of most neighbours by relaxing most restrictions.

Returning to Thailand is an entirely different matter.
