Hospitals Put on 24hr Alert for ‘7 Dangerous Days’

BANGKOK (NNT) - Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered all provincial public health officials to be on standby during the "7 dangerous days" of Songkran when traffic accidents spike as people return to their hometowns for festivities.

 

According to the public health minister, all public hospitals have been instructed to prepare their emergency rooms and stock up on medications in preparation for high trauma patients from April 11 to 17. Each facility has also been told to prepare emergency vehicles to transport patients to nearby hospitals if their beds are fully occupied.

 

Anutin also directed that the Covid-19 vaccine be distributed to provincial hospitals and vaccination units by the Department of Disease Control (DDC). He then urged public health officials to vaccinate people in the so-called "608 groups" before the Songkran festival began, in order to prevent cluster outbreaks at the community level.

The 608 group consists of seniors aged 60 and up, patients aged 12 and up with one of seven chronic diseases, and pregnant women. If contracted Covid-19, people in this group are more likely to develop severe symptoms.

 

Anutin requested that holiday revelers and those celebrating the occasion be fully vaccinated and follow stringent Covid-19 preventative measures at all times in order to avoid another disease outbreak in the country.

I really find it hard to suck up the headline [ 7 dangerous days] why have it in the first place this year? I think it's a bad time to have people getting close to each other when covid is still so strong. Somebody should take the blame for having it this year.

I believe I've arrived. First few years I relished and actively participated. Then I started grousing on forums such as this like a grumpy old dodger. Now? I just don't care. Slight inconvenience that I have to go to Makro at 6:00 a.m. to replenish needed supplies. The liquor cabinet is always well stocked and a Family Mart literally two doors down has beer if the desire hits. Party on Songkran.

Slightly interested why you would want to haul your ass to Makro (out of all places) at 6 am - I must have missed something ????

It opens at 6:00 a.m. and there is very little traffic, NO Songkran revelers holding buckets of ice water with my name on them, and I am one of perhaps six people in the store. Zip zip in, out, done and dusted.

Someone should have told him they look a bit ridiculous tucked into the trousers, and they don't really go with masks either!

 

Can I assume that masks are compulsory for water play areas? I'm not quite sure of the efficacy of a saturated mask!

Instead of advising the hospitals to prepare for the worse regarding motor vehicle accidents   Maybe a stringent enforcement plan should be implemented for violators. 
And to start vaccinations now before Songkran.  I think that’s a little bit late.  Since it takes a certain amount of time for the vaccines to take effect.

365 days on alert  would be a better way to go . Average road casualties are a costly burden on Thailand .

Has anyone asked WHY..the RTP do nothing to stop road acidents and get a straight answer ....  Many cars and bike can't be road legal....so if they got them in off the raids fewer vehicles few accident ... don't that make sense ...but it seems that maybe the problem NO ONE THINKS...... Or no brain from top to bottom...

their own statistics show there is less road deathes during this period than a normal 7 days.
