Popular Post richard_smith237
And they were all given a serious fine, had their car impounded until the fine was paid. We’re banned from driving for a year and faced a couple of months in Jail ???? No ??... Oh, they paid a minor fine and could continue on their way with a slip of paper which means they would not be charged for the same offence on the same day ????? 25 3 3

Popular Post kwonitoy
There has always been a massive amount of drunks on Thai roads, and more so at SongKran. Officials are now surprised by the "new" information of drunks at SongKran Much like covid testing, if you look you will find. 16

Popular Post prakhonchai nick
195 drunk cases should mean 195 drunk drivers currently held in police custody awaiting the courts resumption next week when they will all receive a custodial sentence. Their vehicles having been impounded will be waiting the crusher startung up next week. But as others have said, provided the drunks drivers vehicles are in one piece, they will have continued their journey SHAME on all involved.

Mandatory 6 months in army camp if tested positive DUI Any injuries to 3rd party one year in army camp Serious injuries or death 5-10 years for attempted manslaughter. Popular Post Surasak
The UK had a similar problem of drunk drivers, but the penalties were quite harsh. There was also a restricted time for bars and off licences, similar to here. However, the licence laws were changed and alcohol was available 24/7. Although it took a while, the DUI problem reduced dramatically. 4 1

Best start a new prison building program if they were to start jailing drunk drivers as they're overflowing.

Popular Post Flink
"So the government buy fleets of high powered Series 5 BMW's. For chasing down drunk/drugged/dangerous/reckless drivers on the roads and expressways?" No, fitted with cameras using facial recognition software for creeping along the streets at 15 miles and hour looking for the REAL criminal element, foreigners overstaying 3 days or late with their 90 days reports because they are giving the country a bad name." All comes down to priorities I guess. After all, a drunk driver who kills himself/others in a wreck will be reincarnated with a chance to redeem themselves, a foreigner, on the other hand......

johncat1
I would have thought the 1,123 people, should ALL be charged with reckless driving as driving under the influence is extremely reckless. and a danger to everyone.
Popular Post Chongalulu
Just last week a drink/drug driver who crashed into a car killing 2 kids in UK was sentenced to 14 years for "death by dangerous driving ". Even with his 30% ‘discount' for early guilty plea he’ll serve 9+ years. And there are those complaining that wasn’t severe enough. THAT'S the attitude to drink driving that’s required by society here to change the appalling road accident stats here… oh,and an IQ above the average 90 in Thailand. 10

All these offences came to light AFTER the accident. None were the result of active police work yet there's 50,000 of the lazy beggars, all on overtime, all staring at their phones.
Popular Post kwak250
I always knew in the U.k that driving after a couple of pints was very risky You would be near to being over on a test and losing a licence which was a huge inconvenience. The problem here is that they just dont give a fork . Even over the limit and incapable of driving my nephew had a 1000 baht fine and had to take a taxi home and get the car in the morning. As a family member knows someone in the police force the ticket was never paid. This needs to change! Dont get me wrong i am sure most of us have been pis7ed as a fart and drove home at one point but without any consequences the craziness will continue. 3
Popular Post TigerandDog
They'll never eradicate drunk driving here, and here's one of the main reasons why. We had our house warming party on Tuesday, and one of our guests, who we new was a police officer, turned up in uniform and already intoxicated. He consumed 2 bottles of whiskey, on his own, and when he left the party hopped into his marked police car, and drove away. There was no way he was in any condition to drive, but when the cops drink and drive the public are going to follow their example, the same as they do with speeding and general disregard for the road rules.
