Thailand on Wednesday (April 20) reported 20,455 new COVID-19 cases, 25,933 recoveries and 128 additional deaths over the past 24 hours.

Wednesday’s cases bring the total number of COVID-19 infections in Thailand to 4,084,299 with 27,263 deaths.

The news comes as the steady fall in daily COVID-19 infections during the Songkran holidays can be deceptive and may not reflect the real situation, as fewer RT-PCR and rapid antigen tests were conducted during the period, according to Dr. Chakkarat Pittayawonganon, director of the Division of Epidemiology, Disease Control Department, yesterday (Tuesday).

He said that, during the pre-Songkran period, about 100,000 RT-PCR and rapid antigen tests were conducted per day, but only about 80,000 tests a day were taken during the Songkran holidays, resulting in fewer than 20,000 confirmed infections per day, compared to about 25,000 cases a day the week before Songkran.

Now we are creeping up again from the 93 cases yesterday. Is this the start of the Songkran Effect?

Health officials on Wednesday (April 20) reported 173 new COVID-19 cases in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, of which 38 cases were found in Hua Hin.

Elsewhere in the province, 25 cases were found in Pranburi, 25 cases in Sam Roi Yot, 3 cases in Kuiburi, 13 cases in Thap Sakae, 13 cases in Bang Saphan, 7 cases in Bang Saphan Noi, and 49 cases in Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan.

Three new COVID-19 related deaths were reported in the province today.

I always wonder about the ages of the people dying these days, is it still mostly the elderly,

or are younger people dying now as well. Just curious. Numbers are still higher than 100 per day. Same for the USA

but they seem to think that the pandemic is over. I guess having over 300 million people for a population,

and only a few hundred dying per day is not a big percentage. No more masks needed in the USA,

likely means more people will be infected, but maybe one day the herd amount will be arrived at.

Good Luck all of you in Thailand, stay healthy.
