I know it is a very dangerous and  slippery slope, that over time could lead to an EV, but since I am paying 30 baht/kWh, it is a risk worth taking.

At the moment I am using 12 litre of diesel daily to generate electricity, so the main problem is how to maintain my carbon footprint 👣 when switching to solar 😉

OMT  ...  could ... should lead to a BEV.  You'd be a fool not to, if having solar.   Solar cuts about 10k a month off living expense.  5k for PEA savings & 5k from petrol savings.  Come August, and that's 3 yrs having solar, and ROI is more than half done.   And our 'installed' system, wasn't cheap.

 

This guy will talk you through solar installation.  The kid's a genius.  I think key points, are, hook battery up last, and solar panels to inverter at night, when not producing.  Save zapping yourself, as could easily kill you.

Are you saying you live somewhere in Thailand without electricity?   Or are you saying you do have electrical service but you figure the electric company burns 12 liters of diesel per day to feed your home with electrons?

We are a group of 19 villas that run on a communal generator. The generator is way oversized, 60 kVA, and burns through 3,600 l of diesel ️ every month.

Just do it like the Farmers everywhere, just burn your Trash daily. As more smoke as better for your Neighbors.

Solar was in its infancy and prohibitively expensive when the generators were installed 15 years ago. They have done well and been a reliable source of power, but lately time, weather and geckos are starting to play tricks on various control boards.

Thanks to the price drop in solar, it is time to move on.

By the way, PEA is still running the rest of the island on 8 huge generators and are bringing in tons of diesel ️ every second night.

Nah ... I like a cool house, even the AC overnight instead of the fan.  Cleaner air & lower RH.    Also, have to drive around doing nothing.  And if less than 250 kms R/T ... free.

 

If I had to buy petrol to explore locally, I wouldn't bother, as nothing really worth spending money to see.

 

We could seriously get by on 25 kms a month, and not even have to be the car, which is only 300 kms a year, and yet, 1st year put on 20k, and shy of 20k the following 18 months.

Exacement!! You pay the insurance whether you drive or not - might as well drive to get your monies worth!  :thumbsup:

BYD Phone Application

 

Must be doing something wrong when I try to bring up the QR code in the Sealion 7. No QR code.

Can you register 2 different emails with the same BYD car?

I haven't looked into it but sharing 1 email account with two different native speakers seems to cause problems.

Based on this BYD Australia weblink and Reddit posts, no can do "two" email accounts.   And if having the app on two phones under one email address when you log onto one phone it will log you off the other phone.

The MG app is the same.  Both my eldest daughter and I have the app on our phones.  I use it to see where she is which is very comforting.  Occasionally she uses it to remotely turn on the air conditioning and I have to login again afterwards.

 

When I sold the MG EP+ there was 500 baht charging credit on the app, that disappeared, presumably the new owner got it.

I assume both you and the daughter are using the "same" email acct when logging in?

Yes, it’s one account but I think it’s based on phone number not on email

Didn't know there was a phone number login option for Thailand.  I have to login with my email address and PW. 

 

Now once logged in whenever I need to open the app I just using biometric/fingerprint to get the app fully operating....no email and PW entry required.   Only if I manually logout...that is click the logout icon do I have to login again using my email address and PW.

It's the MG app not the BYD app.

And here's an article with partial quote with more details on the BYD ultra fast charging blade battery that can charge at 10C, Super-E 1000V/1000A platform, etc.   This truly seems like a BIG step forward in batter battery technology that actually going to reach the common man at an affordable price very soon. However, it will not improve the charging speed at the typical 120KW DC charger, 7KW wall charger, etc.   What I also hope to see soon is just EV batteries that can hold a "lot more KWH" without being physically bigger which will very significantly increase range.    Faster charging and higher capacity batteries will drive hasten the continuing transition to EVs.

This is aggressive as heck....... 'SUV' has air suspension, 4-wheel steering and tons of 'intelligent' features, it's also quit big, compared to the Tesla 'Y'

Thailand chargers although abundant the majority are slow

Faster charging batteries is a good thing "if", repeat if you can find a DC charger with the high power to provide the required charging rate. 

 

Like a 80KWH EV battery with a 5C rate would require a 400KW DC Fast Charger to fully charge in 1 hour "if" the battery could maintain a 5C rate from zero to 100 SOC which is highly doubtful as that highest C rate will only be over a portion of the battery's charge curve.  An 80KWH EV battery with a 10C rate would require an 800KW charger to take full advantage of the high C rate.   How many 400KW and 800KW chargers have you seen around Thailand--probably zero.  And of course a high C charge rate does nothing to improve your charging speed on your home 22/11/7KW wall charger.

 

More powerful batteries/higher KWH without increase in physical size is what I would prefer....that is, like a 160KWH battery which is the same physical size as an 80KWH battery....give you a ton of range and/or be able to give good range to larger vehicles like a full size SUV say the size of a Toyota Fortuner or Isuzu MX-X SUV.    Throw in faster charging/high C rate as ice cream on top of the pie....yummy.

How about an 88.1 KwH battery that will charged from 10-90% in 25 mins with 250 KW charger (mathematically)- I didn't calculate for more than 250 kW chargers because I've not see any (as you mentioned).

 

 

BUT...   realistically 'real world'...   30-80% while having a KFC at a service station (about 20 mins or so) - DC 150 kW fast charger I think it was.

 

 

Depends on use - but we have not used anything other than the home charger since before Christmas...   How much range do you need ?? - we're doing less than 100km per day and charge over night at home.
