I would have thought fairly important as I know of a couple of older people with health issues who had problems obtaining insurance.

I agree. And, also pfizer kocked me about. I imagine by the end of year the governments around the world will have moved from vaccination checking as it transitions into a matter of personal health choice, like a flu shot. It's going to cost them money to keep populations vaccinated they will likely want to offload that burden back to the public, at least to some degree.

Exactly. In any other context this would be seen as medical discrimination. Governments are still operating as if they are preventing some global pandemic from occurring but that ship sailed months ago!

Most travel insurance companies will not cover anyone over 75. The odd one that does wants an exorbitant amount of premium upto $1400. When I travel in end may I will have had 2 shots plus 2 boosters but this does not reduce the premium same premium as someone unvaccinated.

Anyone know of an insurer that covers over 75?

The usual scenario is you can still fill in the old application, but nothing happens or it gets in a mess.

Anyone who tries to apply after they announce changes is asking for trouble.

Exactly. i went to the UK last August, pre departure and 3 PCR test plus a week in quarantine for the UK. Had to book a 15 day quarantine package to return to Thailand plus the PCR tests.

A tremendous improvement and people are still whinging.

While the elimination of PCR testing and the use of ATK in its stead is welcome, there is still no clarity about quarantine requirements. I would suggest enabling self-isolation, and scrapping the haphazard quarantine system, would go a long way to eliminating tourist hesitancy.

I'm sure more tourists will come to Thailand with these now reduced restrictions but I know for sure this 'Thailand Pass' is a step too far for a lot of people who just want to get on a plane and go on holiday.

 

For example, my Mother, she's not coming again until she can just turn up at the airport and get on the plane and she's not going to any country that has hoops to jump through - ever. She won't be alone in this view.

As usual the details are scant. If you're going to announce a major policy change on entry requirements you would imagine the details have been considered, such as insurance, (for how long etc), where these policies can be bought etc....

This should be a voluntary, individual decision by each traveller, IMHO.

 

Also, I yet have to read a glowing travel report on this forum by international travellers, on how a Thailand-based Covid-insurance 'saved our holiday by unbureaucratically covering costs for Covid-19 treatment at a Thailand hospital'...

IMO, remove these two final hurdles and THEN tourists will return as pre-Covid-19, as here in Cambodia - visa on entry and no mandatory insurance, only proof of full vaccination (if no proof, no entry, simple!)

We arrive on the 2nd May, so on the surface this sounds like good news.

 

However, should I take the risk of cancelling the Hotel/PCR test (can cancel before 24th for full refund) which may in some way end in screwing up the QR code, especially as the TP is temporarily closed to allow for changes.... and the potential for all this to go south. 

 

Perhaps better to stay on the side of caution and keep all as is - its a small loss in the grand scheme as well as piece of mind.

Well, that's a step in the right direction. I wonder how long it will take them to figure unvaxed does NOT mean infected, and that vaxed can get infected and infect other just the same as unvaxed. Some countries around the world have already understood this point and treat all equally.

Although the cited article mentions Thailand Pass remaining, the paper that we can't quote does not.

 

The definition of foreign visitors and foreigners residing in Thailand is also not given, so not clear whether the new regulations only apply to tourists, (foreign visitors?), or to all non Thais, whether they live in Thailand or not.

 

Clarity is not a friend to the people who make public announcements.

Indeed - they did say that in the event that test and go is cancelled I'll get my money back but I'm still waiting for the refund on my second PCR test from March when I did the Phuket sandbox.
