Live Udon Thani- Wife going over with friends-- they want to do the markets,  2 days Vientiane & 2 days L.P.  their hoping to find new suppliers Junk Jewry/paintings  etc for their markets here.

 

Usually they buy from BKK

 

Been a few years with Covid etc--so can anyone recommend a mid range Hotel near to the main markets in both. I see the Kip--Baht has crashed, 200+ 8 months ago 400+ now. Hope its not affected the people to much.

Yer they did--they were recommended to look on Kayak, I had heard about the site on US TV adverts but had not used the it before but,  it really undercut all the other sites (Agoda/Booking.com   etc ) as it lists their price along with Kayaks -- they picked a hotel close to the Mekong and Kayak just said the cheapest price on the market  is the hotel--phone them direct.

 

With Lao's they said it still had not open completely--the main shopping center (3 levels) still had 2 floors closed-- you can get the high speed train now to  Luang Prabang or China. ...disappointing--but they brought back a lot of good red wine--Cheap...

Didn't recommend anything, as been almost 10 yrs since there.  Future reference for anyone, we stayed at Nalinthone GH, riverside to the west of 'downtown' & riverside market.

 

Nice area, quite with plenty of good food/restaurants in the area.  Had parking, a plus, since we self drove.  Worth taking a peek, along with others nearby, w/more amenities, if going:
