BANGKOK, June 15 (TNA) – The Department of Mental Health has seriously warned three groups of people to definitely stay away from cannabis. It has opened its hotline number 1667 to advise on safe cannabis use for medical purposes.

Dr Amporn Benjaponpitak, director-general of the department, said that the Ministry of Public Health decriminalized cannabis on June 9 for health and medical benefits and seriously advised people to properly use cannabis for treatment to protect themselves from undesirable effects and addiction.

She said that cannabis and hemp must not be sold to young people, pregnant women and the mothers who were breastfeeding. Cannabis extract could harm fetuses and babies if their mothers consumed it, the director-general said.

so it can be sold to everybody over 18. Everybody knows this. Youngsters won't be buying it for 400b/g, but grow it on empty land patches.

Interesting to know, if this doctor has any scientific research on harmful effect on fetus and toddlers. Most likely just made up story. But you can't prohibit mothers from buying ganja. This doctor statement is illegal

As with anything some people will abuse it. Kids will be using it in Thailand. In moderation no biggie  but done regularly really not good at all.

I am happy about the de facto legalization. Overall it's very positive news in many ways. Also it's great for Thailand's international branding image.

But still there will be downsides.

Do you think teens were not using it before it became legal? And do you believe it will increase the chronic use amongst teens now it is legal?

I think recreational use may increase due to the novelty of legalisation but I doubt it will turn people on to drugs that weren't interested in them in the first place.

Maybe more teens will be using it now that it is legal, could be a very good thing!

They could grow this and consume it instead of other more dangerous drugs.

Of course they were.

Of course it will increase.

A bit naive. Many will do multiple drugs. I agree pot is on the lower end of danger.

Let Cambodia continue to enjoy the revenue from gambling and ganja. I will continue to rely on cold beer to relax. A trip over to Cambo is still dirt cheap if I get a craving for cannabis.

maybe it's a gateway drug, maybe it's not.

but there is a better chance it is versus a coffee drinker.  or a PhD student who likes Pepsi.  or someone who only smokes cigarettes.

time will tell.   one thing for sure...... the drug kingpins have been waiting for this for years.  I've been in their jungles.....wow.    soon it will rain ganga...and soon people's motivation will go from 1/100 to 0/100.   Schools will open at noon, close at 12:10......nap time for hours.   5555
