Daily News Thai Caption: Arrest my own son

A 71 year old father has gone to the Thai police after his youngest son stole valuables worth 12 million baht from his safe, it is alleged. He said he never thought he'd see the day when his own flesh and blood would do such a thing.

Ekachai, now 72 in the body of the Daily News story, went to the Ayutthaya police with his eldest boy Pongpinit, 41, to meet the chief Pol Col Prawes Srinakh.

He gave details about the theft that involved 12 guns, 200 baht weight in gold jewelry, nine Rolex watches, three Omega watches, land title deeds and a will all valued at 12 million baht.

He'd kept all that in a safe on the second floor of a house in Phailing sub-district. It went missing on the 10th of June and investigators had already found no evidence that the safe had been forced.

Pongpinit said his dad lived there alone. He and his younger brother live in Bangkok. In April his father had fallen down in an apparent accident and he had taken him to hospital. He was later transferred to a hopsital in Thonburi for a month.

When he was allowed home he found the locks changed at the house and the keys to the safe missing.

When the old man had recovered he remembered that Pongpiphat, his youngest had attacked him and was "looking after" the house.

Ekachai said that he couldn't believe his own son would do this and steal from him and wanted him found and prosecuted.

Meanwhile police had spoken to the youngest son who said he'd put the valuables elsewhere for safe keeping, not stolen them and did not attack his father. The valuables still belonged to his dad.

Only a part of the haul has been found in the Bangkok residence of Pornpiphat who is now in custody.

Police said it was a delicate family matter and they were trying to get to the bottom of it.

I'd be careful......if someone breaks in, ties you up and all they find in the safe is court documents, you might get a good kicking......might be better to stick a few thousand baht in there and some fake jewellery.............just to be on the 'safe' side.....555

There is nothing delicate about it ........    it's a thieving son who bashed his father then robbed him.

What is delicate about that   ?

One of the huge issues here is the princely treatment given to boys. They are nothing special. On any level. Yet, the parents let them get away with nearly anything, and spoil them rotten. What Thai parents need to start saying to their sons is this:

You are nothing special.

Your sister is as good as you, or better.

She works harder, she is more ambitious and she does not take everything, and everyone for granted.

So, until you prove to us, to the family, and to the community that you are special, by your deeds, actions, and hard work, you are not anything but a normal kid. Nothing more.

My guess is there are alot of Thai parents who wonder later, where did I go wrong with my son, and why did he turn out to be so self entitled, so spoiled, so unwilling to put in a hard days work, and how did he become so rotten, and so undeserving of our care and protection?

Also, it is my observation that alot of parents seem to have lost the art of parenting. The child sort of becomes the boss. This is epidemic in Thai households with the sons, who are treated as if they are very special, when they are just ordinary boys, who have proven nothing to the world yet, as to their worthiness for adulation. As a result, children today are less self-reliant. Many preteen children don’t yet know how to be alone at bedtime and they haven’t been forced to learn. Parents band-aid the issue by allowing co-sleeping.

None are really so cunning, but nasty........oh yea!

While the son is definitely a low-life, family that colludes with police are not much better

Saw this behavior in the Private International schools with the boys and their parents... Parents dropped them off like luggage, did not want to be bothered by junior exploits at school.

Glad the old man went to the police.  I wonder how many cases like this go unheard in Thailand and the World?

That is a pretty big stash.  But only 12 guns to  so many rolexes? 7 watches total.  I think 12 guns per 1 fake Rolex is more normal.

Maybe the old boy should have kept one of those guns loaded and on his person.

Touche'

I think the father and son need their money trails checked, will the cops press charges if all 12 guns were not registered ?

Most of my male buddies who hunt probably have 12 guns.   Need different tools for different jobs.  It's so funny the reaction of people who were not raised with guns.  It's like they were taught they are evil or something.   Every boy should get a BB gun or 2, by 8,  a .22 by age 10, a .270 or so by 14 when your allowed to hunt big game.  Somewhere in there you need a shotgun, then some pistols, maybe you get into the long range game.  I'm a one shot kid so I don't use my semi autos much even before high ammo prices.   It's the same with archery.  I guess there are city slickers and mountain men.
