The old movie "Reefer Madness" has been blamed for setting back the whole issue of marijuana usage for generations but Thailand is now in the grip of a different kind of loony behavior.

"Ganja Fever"

A mad scramble for marijuana plants that Thai media Sanook said was part of "Ganja Fever" - a term they used via English to describe what was going on in Thailand since legalization just a week ago.

In the latest incident a 50 something man lost his temper at a queue to buy plants produced by Mae Jo university in Sansai, Chiang Mai in the north of the country.

The man had arrived too late to be part of the queue system and lost his temper after an exchange of bad words with officials.

A fist fight erupted over the plants.

Just 80 queue tickets are being issued a day limiting customers to 5 plants each.

The man was told to come back earlier another day when 400 more would be available.

ASEAN NOW suggests that the man should chill and be more "jai yen yen" - perhaps by visiting one of the many "dispensaries" now sprouting up all over Thailand, if he can afford their prices!

Take my wife, sell my kids into slavery, rescind my civil rights and liberties but don't touch my Ganja plant.

OMG, poor, childish behavior, you'd never see this in Pattaya.

I'm staying away from Chiang Mai, very dangerous place.
