‘Russia reserves the right to take action’ says Peskov as EU sanctions squeeze Baltic exclave

 

Russia has warned Lithuania – a Nato member – that it will “take action” unless the movement of goods by rail to the Kaliningrad exclave is restored.

 

Moscow summoned Lithuania’s top diplomat to deliver a protest after the Baltic nation banned the transit of sanctioned goods through its territory.

 

Kaliningrad, formerly the port of Koenigsberg, capital of East Prussia, was captured from Nazi Germany by the Red Army in April 1945 and ceded to the Soviet Union after World War Two.

Lithuania said it was merely implementing EU sanctions, part of a swathe of measures intended to punish President Vladimir Putin for the invasion of Ukraine.

The more Russia threatens other countries, the more other countries should be willing to arm the Ukrainians IMO. Threatening not only wears out, but it can backfire.

I hear Russia is now destroying the Ukraine's grain and the grain ships. Putin must be taken out by any means as people in many countries will be starving soon. He's gone bananas!

I suspect that the US might intervene unilaterally to break Russia's blockade on Ukrainian ports on the basis that it's a war crime and to prevent millions of people from starving.

Kalingingrad borders Lithuania and Poland. I assume most citizens are from those stock. Russia doesn't even abutt that slice.

Seems Poland & Lithuania could use same arguments Russia gave as rationale for throwing out Russians who hold that area hostage.

If Lithuania doesn't want to allow Russia to use the rails, that is their choice. Anyone remember when Soviet Union blockaded West Berlin?

Had a very interesting conversation with a retired colonel of the British army.

He stated NATO could obliterate the Russian army in Ukraine without setting one boot on Ukrainian soil.

NATO is not worried about Russia, their focus is on China.

He also stated if Putin was to press the button, they're taking bets on how many of his missiles would actually take off ????

The problem as I see it, it only takes one missile landing on a major conurbation to be tragic

Kaliningrad (former Königsberg, Eastern Prussia) is a result of WWII and expulsion of German population. After that the area was Russified (87%). Polish and similar are fractions of a percent.

Kaliningrad is a Russian stronghold, piling up nuclear rockets/weapons and all the nasty stuff.

What you describe IS the start of WWIII.

More dangerous than the Russian propaganda shout loud to close the gap (Suwalki gap).
