Thailand’s Livestock Development Department has impounded about 59 tonnes of pork, suspected to have been smuggled into the country, at a cold storage facility in Nakhon Pathom province today (Wednesday).

The department’s Director-General Sorawit Thaneeto said that inspectors searched the facility today, after the department had received information that it might be storing illegal pork from abroad.

The search uncovered 1,510 boxes containing legs of pork, weighing about 22,650 kgs, apparently originating in Poland, 80 more boxes of legs of pork from an unknown source, 1,433 boxes of pork bearing Brazilian brand “Seara”, 500 boxes of pork from Germany under the brand “Westfleisch” and 180 more boxes of pork from an unknown source.

Why is smuggling pork now a lucrative enterprise? That is the real story hear.

It's simple , imported pork is a lot cheaper than Thai produced pork,

so importers can sell it a good prices and make profit , it's just

business.

I need some help here.

How come it must be lucrative to sell pork from Germany, Poland and Brazil, having travelled around half the planet in reefer containers?

Did they steal the pork at its origin, did the pork legs walk on their own to Nakhon Pathom or how come, that this is still lucrative and worthwile.

I agree that pricing is going through the unjustified roof but still ......... mind-boggling news! Given the fact, that there is neither duty nor VAT on the "found heist" .........

How it evades customs searches is a better story.

Amazing indeed, it past customs ! Brown enveloppes?

It is only 59 tons.

Another worry is, it came from all over the world. I could think of a mob buying, dubious "leftovers" , from everywhere and selling it again.

So Livestock Development Department has a lot to do, checking where it came from AND have customs check on corruption in their section.

Humans are omnivores, always been like that.

Same as variety of other animals, even a chicken or a pig.

Vegan is a modern hype.

BUT i think we could have more respect in handling our livestock.
