Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis

Public school teachers under the law are barred from engaging in classroom instruction related to sexual orientation or gender identity

  • Florida’s Parental Rights in Education law — known to its critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” law — will officially take effect today.

  • The measure has already had a chilling effect on public school educators, who in some cases have been instructed to remove LGBTQ+ Pride flags and photographs of same-sex partners from their classrooms to avoid violating the law.

  • Republican lawmakers have from the start argued that the measure’s only intent is to empower parents. Democrats and LGBTQ+ advocacy groups say the law is intentionally vague and represents a huge step backward for equality.

Student, "Teacher, where did the alphabet go?"

Teacher, "We've replaced it with same sex lovers. How dare you be so non-inclusive."

The new Math being taught ...

1+1 doesn't equal 3 any more, you have to adopt ... ????

By the alphabet I think you mean phonics. Teaching of the sounds associated with letter shapes, blending them, learning to recognise digraphs and other sounds associated with particular letter shape groupings is ongoing in any classroom. Direct teaching takes between 20 and 25 minutes a day in the early years. Use of such learning is then applied across all other curriculum areas. The amount of wall space required for a display of such sounds is really quite small.

There is plenty of room and time for other areas of learning to be pursued…

So “the alphabet” (LOL) is ever present in any classroom. Hope that eases your concerns.

Lol. Thanks for that.

...which means what, exactly? Gay people are perhaps 3-4% of the population. Trans something like 0.1%. Given that, how much of the classroom and the curriculum need be devoted to them?

Young kids in early elementary school, like the ones mentioned in the law, should focus on the basics. No need to get into socially conscious or political themes at that age.

You really should save your faux outrage for subjects you have knowledge of.

All my posts have emphasised that what is taught is early years appropriate. You might want to think about what that means…
