When investing in collective funds abroad, they seem to most times increase in value to benefit an investor (except in time of crisis but after that they recover)

Have been monitoring Thai investment funds for about 6 years now and there appears to be little increase in return on an investment.

What could be the reason for people to invest in these products if there would be no or little benefit to the investor over long periods of time?
