I have two questions I'm hoping you can give me some advice on please. I will be entering Bangkok on a 90 day Non-Immigrant Type O Retirement VISA. When I get to Hau Hin I plan to apply to renew the VISA. My question is, will immigration at BKK Suvarnabhumi airport allow me to enter on a one way flight ticket?

 

My other question is, what documents are needed to open a bank account (Krungsri Bank, Bangkok Bank, Siam Commerical Bank)?

Re docs for Bank... Depends on the bank.

You have a non O so that's one hurdle ticked.

A lease may be enough for some banks.

Some may require a residence certificate.

What location are you planning to open account. .

Stick to one of the 3 or 4 banks that allow largish transfers using Wise.

Personally I had success with Kasikorn with a non O. 

They are on list for transfers from Wise. 

 

Regarding your process...

With the non O retirement you will be stamped in for 90 days. 

You need to transfer 800k to the account you intend to open.

When the funds have been in bank for 2 months  apply for 12 month extension based on retirement.

It's not a visa.

Be aware of ongoing requirements to maintain funds in bank

You won't have an issue.

You can open bank account yourself.

Worse case fall back option is to use agent to open bank account.

Most agents such as Siam Legal use Bangkok Bank.

That bank wanted a residence certificate from me whereas Kasikorn did not

Ok thanks, I will look into Kasikorn. I have never used WISE to transfer funds. What are their fees like? I've always used XE.

You can do a comparison

Most companies give you an exact quote with fees clearly outlined.

Personally found Wise good.

Threads on this in banking and finance forum. 

You want FTT bank code on the transfer. 

 

A few banks here will not allow farang to open accounts here. I use KTB no problems very helpful. Suggest find a main branch, then better chance of english speaking staff.

If the OP plans on settling in Hua Hin, maybe he can open a thread asking about best local banks for a foreigner in the  Hua Hin & Cha-am forum? It won't really be a duplicate posting or misplaced and may elicit a faster response?

If not accepted, go to another bank, won't take long to find a bank that will quickly start your account.
