How many trucks of dirt needed?

Featured Replies

Anyone know the average volume of dirt delivered in one smaller size dump truck? Maybe 4 m³?

How many truck loads would you estimate would be needed to fill one rai 1 meter deep? I'm guessing about 350 trucks.

It's a lot more than one would think, remember that your "4m3" truckload is uncompacted, by the time it's been compacted it may well be half that ????

If you can find a contractor who will do it as "raise this land by 1m after compacting" you reduce the risk of having to shell out further $$$ when your estimate comes up short.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

IIRC, the average load of the smaller trucks is 2 cubic metres.

1 Rai 1 meter deep that is 1600m3 (=40x40x1)

adding a compact factor of let's say 0.3, then you would need approx 2080m3 (1600x1.3)

Divide that by 3,5 = 2080 / 3,5 = 595 Trucks!

3,5 = the load of the truck in m3

Good few years back mind we used larger trucks on about 1/4 rai and just got them coming with the cost of a tractor. 35,000 from memory.

Also the road out side was being resurfaced so giving a guy 200 baht to drive a roller over it was a bonus was surprised how much it compressed.

We just shelled out to raise land about 6ft, it is approx. 7/10 of a rai. Land was very low, not rice paddy, just family vegetable farm that had not been used for 15 years.

10 wheel trucks, 4 days, 644 loads. Trucks were full, we made sure of that.

The dirt was from a former tree farm, so it was decent stuff, no rocks.

SIL made the deal at 210B per truck, it was a guy she knew for a while who told her to say we paid 200B, just to get the deal from someone else.

The final bill was just over 135k, including the tractor guy. We are happy with it.
