Popular Post NoDisplayName Posted August 2, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 2, 2022 I was at CW picking up my shiny new NON-O visa this afternoon. While downstairs to make copies, noticed the Bangkok Bank office was dark and taped off. An employee told me their server was down for repairs and would be back up in 3-4 days. The lady in the copy shop said there was a fire in the server room earlier. The Laksi Station branch is nearby for bank letters. 1 2
Photoguy21 Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Shows you just how badly their network is. I would expect dual servers with Raid 5 storage but probably just on a normal computer.
Popular Post Pib Posted August 2, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 2, 2022 Even if they had dual servers with Raid storage setup, if the room and its associated electrical wiring was damaged "and/or the cause of the fire" I expect they will be completely reworking/rewiring the server area before they fire-up/plug-in their server(s) again. 5

I agree, but it would be surprising if they had any servers that store data locally at all. I would expect their "server" room to contain nothing except some networking equipment and a firewall appliance with built-in VPN for access to the (remote) servers. Storing data at individual branches just complicates security and backup. You are right, though. After a fire, there is probably a lot of necessary electrical and network rewiring needed. 1
mnomad Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Ah the old school mentality, raid X and a/b power, maybe even a UPS on the floor of the half rack..

Absolutely though, on reflection, there might be one minor exception. Many organisations keep the CCTV footage locally. Whether you would call that a "server" is debatable though.

Pib Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 I happened to be at CW immigration today and when I walked downstairs where the bank is a person can easily smell that "burnt" smell around the bank. It was still closed/roped off and a half dozen or so people inside working to cleanup. One lady was trying to dry out some paperwork so maybe automatic sprinklers went off. Through the glass windows I snapped a picture of the equipment room where apparently the fire was........it's more of a network equipment and main panel circuit breaker room.
