Conversion to non-imm visa

Featured Replies

I know that this has been discussed before. but I cannot find the thread. Please forgive my ignorance.

I always understood that a UK citizen (among others) could enter Thailand on a Visa-exempt stay, get 30 days, and before that expires convert to a Non-Imm O visa based on marriage.

I have now had my ear bent by an acquaintance that this is no longer possible and that all Non-Imm. visas have to be obtained in the home country.

Expert(s) please clarify.

I'm not expert, but from what I read on here your acquaintance is talking garbage.

A 30 day extension to the initial VE entry may be required to get all the requirements in line.

You can obtain non O marriage or retirement from a visa exempt or tourist visa entry.

OP you state...

"Visa-exempt stay, get 30 days, and before that expires convert to a Non-Imm O visa based on marriage".

Keep in mind you need to apply for non O with 15+ days remaining on your visa exempt entry.

21 days at some places eg CM.

You could obtain 30 day extension to provide extra time.

Need 400k in Thai bank account on day you apply for non O

Bit different, but:

I had done a border run on July 17 to Laos and came back with visa exempt 30 days. On July 19 applied for Non O visa (status) at Khon Kaen immigration.

Two days ago (August 5, approved August 2) I got my Non O based on retirement stamped in the passport.

As written somewhat different as based on retirement and having 800k+ funds in Thai bank since long but generally it's possible.

Admitted until October 30.

On October 3 I will apply for one year extension.

You are applying for extension after your "admitted till" date??

I think October 3 is before October 30

Hi All,

I'm replying trying to do my visa here in the US.  Spoke with the embassy today.  They said I MUST HAVE Thai wife or family to apply for a O-Non-Imm online.  However, reading all the threads some are married, etc, and it appears many are not, when applying in country.  So, would someone please clarify if you actually need Thai relation for an O-visa while in Thailand?

I think somebody at the embassy gave you some false info. It can still be done online according to their website. https://thaiembdc.org/2020/11/17/nonoretirement/

for avoidance of doubt you could use ISO 8601 format but it's weird and confusing ????

Thanks Joe,

I follow through with the "what visa" prompts on their site and it gets to this page ... https://www.thaievisa.go.th/non-immigrant-o.  I notes the requirements regarding family.  I believe that's what the guy at the embassy was referring to yesterday.  I am in the process of going the O-A route which I may not make it by my 9-1 flight.  I'm waiting on an insurance quote from Mr. Prakan.  The insurance is totally different for each visa.  O vs O-A.  I guess I'll go back to my original question....... Do they issue Non-Imm O to single people while in country.  If so I may just skip the whole embassy think an come visa exempt and hope for an O.  Thank you for your help.
