The warrant was not done in secret, but rather it followed traditional DoJ policy of not making public---so as not to prejudice the public or potential jurors---the reasons or wording of the warrant. The search was never announced by DoJ nor FBI, but only became public because 45 issued a statement.

 

On Thursday, AG Garland did a few things....he asked the judge to unseal the warrant. If 45 thought the warrant was unjustified, he could have released the wording, as is his prerogative. He didn't do it, kind of suggesting it wasn't up to him (which it is), or that he knew the wording would make him look bad. Now faced with the chance the judge will unseal it, 45's lawyers are trying to appeal and block the release, as apparently 45 would lose control of the narrative and lose out on the grift.

 

Also, AG Garland noted that 45's counsel was present during the search, which obviates the chance that "the FBI planted evidence".

 

The reason the search took 10 hours is because not only was material seized, but a detailed inventory of each document was recorded with 45's counsel present.

 

Thus, ZERO chance of 'planted evidence'.

Can we possibly step away from speculating on how this can be spun in order to gain electoral advantage and briefly focus on what is happening now?

 

If it turns out the raid was legitimate and documents Trump had no business possessing are found, possibly nuclear secrets, don't you think Trump should be held accountable?

 

If it turns out Trump was illegally keeping documents that should never have left government custody, and keeping them in an insecure manner that put national security at risk, do you think that might soften his popularity a little?

The possibility of the entire search being clearly visible with cctv is rather remote.

Merrick Garland IMO has now wedged Trump and the Republicans with superb finesse.

He had all the bigwigs of the GOP screaming for the search warrant to be released, and stayed silent. He also knew Trump would of course have a copy of the warrant. After a couple of days of keeping his own counsel, he then applied for the warrant to be unsealed in a Florida court. Trump will no doubt be opposing the application.

 

After Trump claimed only mobsters took the Fifth, then used it himself, this is getting to be pure comedy gold. Garland has made McConnell, Graham, Pence etc. - the whole wailing Greek chorus of Trump Republicans - look like absolute idiots.

 

Trump is wedged as well, if he lashes out at Garland in his usual method Garland can just say well, I'm doing what you all want. It's probably why he has shut up, he has no idea what to do next.
