I was wondering if the age had something to do with it.... pretty sure my old Ford Escort in the UK did not have seatbelts in the back. Your logic is flawed, the absence of seat belts does not define it is not intended for passengers, any more than the absence of a TV ! The presence of a seat cushion, a backrest cushion, seat pockets and windows, cup holders and an ash-tray, say the space was built for passengers!

How many external door handles does your 2006 pickup have ?

We bought a nice, expensive car seat for our niece. She kept telling her parents she didn't want to sit in it. So, what happened? They gave in. She rides everywhere without a seat belt. So what happens in the event of an accident to a 3 year old without any restraint?

So, I ask again, who is the parent, and who is the child? Who puts food on the table?

The lettering is green, green on white, perhaps that is what you meant?

So it's a 2 doors. They don't count the 2 small doors that open backwards, and there's no seat at the back but just a bench added after the vehicle left the factory. It's what they call smart cab, space cab or something like that. The models with 4 doors sedan style are double cab. Look on the vehicle registration book - it says what the maximum number of people allowed in the car is.

That  is as I expected because it qualifies it for the lower tax bracket. Odd that the dealers would add extras to make it effectively suitable for illegal use... like an ashtray and cup holders in the back to go with the seat.

No, my logic is not flawed but your TV "logic" sure is.   Your Escort was probably produced before regulations demanded that rear belts, or approved mounting points, were mandatory, as in my Cortina GT and 1600E of the late '60s period.    Carrying of passengers in that area behind the extended cab pickup's driver is not permitted by law in Thailand. That people use it for that purpose is beside the point.

If that rear space was designed to be used to carry passengers there would be seat belts provided from the factory (as required by safety regulations).  That's why every car designed for carrying rear seat passengers produced for many years has rear belts, or the provision of approved fixing points.  Extended cab pickups (not double cabs) do not have that provision, that is because there's no reason for them to be provided, just as there's no reason to provide belt mounts in the rear tray of pickups.

The wife's brother and SIL's child seems to have no problems with using 'her' seat.... she was okay with the mask wearing too during Covid... sweet kid.

Yes Jacko likes to skirt around the fact it has 2 doors and two seats, Ive asked numerous times instead rambling on about some sort of cushion in the rear as though it is a legal seat.

Anyone not sure how many people their car/pickup is legal to seat.... look at your insurance papers, seating capacity is specified.... another good tell tale is how many door handles it has... obviously this does not apply to 2 door coupe cars.

And it is likely her parents understand they are actually parents and make the rules. It all comes down to enforcement. Of course kids do not want to use the seat. So what? Use the seat or stay home.
