This time next year Thailand will be the Opium hub of the world.

Thinking same.

Stop with the piece meal, rip off that band aid and be the narcotic hub of the world.

It is a sad state indeed when the the government advocates drug dealing as means as savior of economy.

You could up in places like Pattaya, around midnight, seeing tourists looking dazed, confused and being led off to their hotels and condos by girls one third of their age (some with 5-o-clock shadows) just to make sure their gold, cash and other valuables are safe.

Hold on a minute !!!!!!!

What the girls have 5-o-clock shadows?

If Magic mushrooms are illegal , how come a Government

official is quoting prices for them ....

"Especially as one kilo of "fresh 'shrooms" goes for 500 baht and 5,000 baht a kilo for dried. "

The hub of drugs. That is going to get a good class of tourists for sure.

Do you not grasp the breadth of use of cannabis in western countries? Your "good class" of tourist just happens to be generally accurate.

Yes I do but only under controlled application not to get people as high as kites and let them loose on the roads.

At this rate the whole country will be so high they won't be needing a spacecraft to get to the moon ????

Judging by the size of the shrooms in the initial photo they won't be needing too many :whistling:

What happened to good ol' yaba? - Oh yes, can't be "grown" in Thailand, so, at this time, not considered...

That's why I put it in quotation marks. ????

Meaning, it won't be considered, as it comes from across the border, otherwise some officials would probably think about promoting it too... ????

Well maybe if they thought they could make money out of it I'm sure some one in government would try and re-legalise it as Ya ba tablets were formerly sold legally at gas stations and used by long-haul drivers to stay awake. The drug was outlawed by the Thai government in 1970

Was told that some were called

The Big Chicken on the menu but don't know if that was weed or mushrooms in the dish.

I remember that it was very popular among school kids in the early 2000s too, till there was a crackdown.

This is not really a new topic. Although I don't know the details, universities and psychiatry institutions have been doing studies since the beginning of this century and feasibility studies were in the Lancet a bit later. Perhaps the experts in Thailand have been doing some reading lately eh?????

in large doses it is a psychedelic narcotic and users can "trip".

Oh dear! Not another substance that can affect Thai drivers like alcohol, marijuana and Ya Ba. The roads could be even more dangerous. Personally, I will no longer use Passenger Vans when visiting Thailand.

My comment was a bit of a joke or humor, I don't really need to think about it and agree the reasons for all the changes is the government want a part of it. But I know those in this area feel there is enough for everyone and the government putting their hands now into it isn't going to deter them from their share.

There is no known lethal dose of mushrooms - understandable to try and instil fear, but best done with facts. Watch "How to change your mind" on NetFlix - clearly stated in Ep.01

1-2000 feet.

They've only started using recovery 'chutes recently.

They weren't in 2010.

At Kuchinari (where the vid was) the safe zone is enforced because those (annular) rockets are especially lethal when they mislaunch/explode on the pad.

Here's one of the less destructive failures I've seen (sometimes they skim/bounce/roll horizontally before exploding):

If you got matey with the team on the day you could probally "assist" with the transport of the rocket to/onto the pad and get on the observation platform that the teams have.

The sound of those annular rockets is amazing.......like a steam locomotive (but louder) as it ascends into the blue.

If I were a 10 day millionaire visitor the annular rockets..........erm, and Pattaya......are the only things I would think worth returning for.

Looking at the expression of alarm on his face, one suspects that he is convinced that he is being followed around by giant mushrooms!

What was it he said about over consumption leading to   psychotic episodes?

I think I will stick to my home made cider - at least I don't get stalked by giant apples!
