A FOREIGN man who posted a video of himself on TikTok after catching endangered parrotfish off Phi Phi Leh island, Krabi province, which is part of Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park has been detained and now faces legal action, Matichon newspaper said this morning (August 16).

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Varawut Silpa-archa said Mr. Roslan Benedia, a Dutch national, was apprehended at a room in Phuket and brought in for questioning at 3.30 p.m. yesterday.

This action was taken after he posted but later deleted a video clip on his TikTok account @roslanofficial showing himself holding two parrotfish and three other fish in his left hand and a stabbed moray eel in the other.

What about the thousands of fish flapping about in local markets or the local Thais 'fishing' with those spear guns along klongs? I went fishing in Issan once they said it would be fun, all they did was pump the water out of a pond then collect the fish on the bottom when it was empty, what's so special about the parrotfish?

They taste great, try it sometime

A Dutch tourist, who was recently seen on TikTok with some parrot fish, which he allegedly caught in Thailand’s southern marine park on Phi Phi islands, has been held in custody by police and officials of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation on five charges, including illegal fishing in a national park.

Park officials said that the tourist, Roslan B., who recently admitted to being a professional spearfisherman, may face imprisonment of up to five years and/or a maximum fine of 500,000 baht if convicted.

The owner of the boat, who rented it to the tourist, and the skipper are facing similar charges.

If you hire someone to take you fishing and they take you to an illegal spot it should be their responsibility, not yours.  Unless you knew it was illegal and asked them to take you there anyway.

I don't think that's how it works around these parts Bubba.
