ChaiyaTH
It is not a discount as it will need to be paid back in taxes, these methods also causes prices to only increase more over time and negatively impact everyone, usually. 2 5

Where do you think they pay subsidies with? Thin air? Or is your smart answer that the poor barely pay taxes, yeah they might, but instead they will then suffer even for more generations as no taxes are left for good purposes. Those who do pay them, will be annoyed even more, and eventually try to avoid paying taxes, or move to other countries, as also happens in the west. Companies usually increase prices even more if there are subsidies, too, specially on the long run. It is never a good solution. Popular Post Excel
Well electricity cost are hitting the poorer people around the world everywhere currently. Many countries are just giving a one off payment or fuel cost reduction across the board which benefits not only the poorest but the more well off also. At least what is being proposed in Thailand appears to target the less fortunate and maybe not giving money away to those that can afford it will potentially allow more to be given to the poorest in Thai society longer.

Cake Monster
More of a worry, is the Tariff hike that is being levied upon Manufacturers and all other Business users. An 18 % increase ( the figure being bandied about ) will cause a massive spike in Inflation. More expensive Food, and everything else will impact everybody, and as usual the poor will suffer more, even if they get a 92 Setang discount on 300 Units of Electric or less. BTW, the 92 Setang will just about be the amount that brings the level back to the present FT rate. 1 hour ago, KannikaP said: Did I not read last week that electricity prices were going up in September.
