How to get an extra 7 days to leave Thailand

Featured Replies

I need to wait a little more in Thailand for a new passport, which is almost ready to be printed.

My current visa ends on Sun 18th 2022.

If I try to apply for a 30 day extension tomorrow, will they reject it and give me 7 days to leave country?

And...

Because my visa runs out on Sunday, is it possible to go into immigration and apply for 7 days from Monday, or does it not work like that?

That is correct however when exactly is your new pp ready.

You say soon? Is that definitive.

Bit late now. I would have done border bounce.

That's good I'll just do it that way.

No space in passport for border bounce.

Ok....not an option.

I really hope the pp comes through within the 7 days.

Another option I very rarely suggest is to go onto overstay and pay fine on departure.

If you know the new pp is coming within 7 days then agree with your plan of obtaining the 7 day get out of dodge stamp.

Good idea about the overstay if it's not too long.

I think I can leave and come back with emergency travel document.

As you would know overstay 500baht per day and not something you want to rack if wanting elite visa in the future.

In the main I suggested overstay as I do not know what happens if you cannot leave with the get out of dodge 7 days

Not sure if it's a simple overstay after the 7 days.

Remember the 7 days is not an extension.

Expert can advise.

It is a rejection stamp, but carries no negative connotations (as long as you really do leave within the seven days as ordered).

Good idea in hindsight.

Nope!  Emergency travel Document is normally just to get you home!

It feels like 7 days extra is just an option to anyone at the end of their 30 days.

Looks just like an extension, not a rejection stamp.

IMO unless you can absolutely guarantee when new pp is in your hands I'm thinking going on overstay better option.

The 7 day get out of dodge is ok for eg flight leaving 4 days after permit expires.

A gamble on when you get your pp is too vague for me.

My Grandson booked his flight out of Bkk 4 days after his tourist visa expired. So, before it expired, I took him to the Consulate and asked for an extension. They gave him a 60 day extension. I have a good friend in Immigration here in Chiang Mai and she told me if ever, anyone has an issue, it is always easier on them to to voluntarily go to Immigration. So far in 8yrs in C.M. everyone has told me that held true for them.

What consulate? .

60 day extension based on what.

The only 60 day extension I am aware of is the previous covid extensions and 60 day extension to visit wife.

Your post is confusing.

you're right it's a 7 day rejection stamp, but almost identical to extension.
