Kids learn how to escape from a locked car

Naew Na Thai Cap: Kids keen to learn - "They showed us how to save ourselves if we get stuck in a car

 

Naew Na reported from Ban Plai Ra in Nakhon Sri Thammarat in the south of Thailand where local groups and rescue organisations are teaching pre-schoolers what to do if they get stuck in a car.

 

The playgroup kids - enjoying themselves under the guise of a cub scout activity - learned vital life skills.

 

Like honking a horn and opening a locked door and seeking help.

It was all deemed a thumbs up success.

 

A seven year old recently died at a school in Chonburi after being forgotten in a van all day.

 

ASEAN NOW also carried a story about a firm trying to persuade schools to upgrade safety with a van management system who were being ignored by school directors when it came to shelling out money to protect children.

Ok...  from an innocent perspective this is not bad thing... 

 

However, there is an undercurrent of avoidance of responsibility.. ‘if kids get locked in a car and can’t get it out its their fault’...  

 

Perhaps I am reading too much into this but there always seems to be an incredibly ignorantly juvenile approach to issues such as this which seems to circumnavigate the real issue at hand and perpetuate the avoidance of responsibility for those who are ultimately responsible. 

 

IF someone leaves a child in any vehicle - penalties should be extremely severe. 

So much so that it is at the forefront of the mind of any driver of a school vehicle. 

 

The sad reality is however that those driving school vans have ‘fallen into the job’ rather than undergone any specific training or safety assessment. 

 

 

So...  We can’t rely on the adults to protect the children so we have to rely on children to look after themselves ????
