Thai Rath reporters hotfooted it to Pranburi in Prachuap Khiri Khan after a Facebook post from a couple who found what they thought was either a lump of jasper or even a meteorite.

Phichet Raksawong, 57, explained that he was doing some plowing ahead of planting vegetables when he heard a sharp noise and found the black object.

His wife Nantawan Rodwong posted online to see if an expert would come forward to say what it was.

But their neighbors in the village of Ban Huay Salaeng Phan were convinced it was an auspicious sign from the heavens.

They were busy snapping up lottery tickets using the house number and the couple's vehicle registration plate for the next draw due at the end of next week.

And here lies the problem.

Everyone knows that Tektite's are never a good indicator of winning lottery numbers.
