Siam Rath reported from the southern Thai tourist island of Koh Samui where Lt-Gen Surachate Hakpan was called in to solve a crime of robbery with menaces against a Russian national.

The media referred to the poster boy cop of the RTP as "Deputy Joke" a nod to his new role. He is normally known as Big Joke.

He recounted how a Russian man called Eugenii had gone to meet his wife in a coffee shop in Taling Ngam sub-district on 15th September.

He had been confronted by five foreign men who demanded he pay them $US3 million.

He was forced to transfer money using his phone in the sum of US $50,000 from a Bitcoin account.

Four of the men left but one stayed behind to threaten the victim that they wanted more.

A Kazakhstan fixer alled Andrey, named as 37 and 56 in the Siam Rath story, was arrested by Lumpini police and Chonburi Immigration and taken back to Samui.

Warrants were issued for five other men including two Kazakh nationals, two Germans and a Russian who was a driver in the brazen robbery.

Most of these seemed to have arrived in Thailand with the express intention of committing the robbery.

They have all since fled the country and are the subject of Interpol red notices for their arrest.
