Everyone in my family smoked. It did kill my mom (lungs), and probably my dad too (heart). Parents didn't care that I smoked as a teenager. The let both me and my sister smoke at home. Parent were chain smokers. I can't say I ever noticed until I stopped smoking myself. Now? I can't stand cigarette smoke. Gawd it stinks. So now just shy of having quit for 50 years. Nicotine is as addictive if not more addictive as heroin. And like heroin, it should be illegal and banned. But the cigarette cartels pay our democratic representatives as sh*t-ton of "campaign contributions" to make sure that never happens. Oddly enough, to this day I have "urges" to light up. It's sort of comical to feel that urge to surface. There is no strength to it but - there it is. Highly, highly, highly addictive. And legal! $Cha-Ching$. The people that support it, benefit from it, or receive benefits from the people that benefit from it.
The most recent election in the US does reflect popular sentiment among the citizens, but not among the press, academia and the elites.
