You can't have it all. The "pesky" tourists allow many businesses to thrive, especially restaurants. The perfect paradise doesn't exist so be grateful for what you now have in Thailand.

Some of my best O&As were during the past almost 3 yrs, and I took advantage of it.

 

As I know it will never be that good again.  Had to hang around the house build for late 2021/2022

In Bangkok it was bliss and quiet after 8 pm, I miss that. Its all motorbikes and traffic noise again now.

Not missing them at all, Chiang Rai is a bit off the beaten track for tourists.

IMO closing golf courses and swimming pools was ridiculous.

My 10th floor condo in Jomtien overlooks 2nd Rd. which is a principal dragstrip for the local motorcycle and hot rod crowd.  The pavement acts like a soundboard, reflecting the noise of revving engines back up to my condo, even when they're nearly a km down the road.

Post midnight is their favorite time with a few waiting for 0300.

My glass balcony doors do a fair job blocking the noise but I do miss the nights of 9pm curfews, balcony doors open during cool season with only the noise of dogs barking from time to time.

 

What I do not miss from lockdown is going out shopping and having virtually no place to sit down and take a break; coffee shops closed, food stands, pretty much every casual place.  Public seats and benches were taped off nearly everywhere.  No place to park my butt for a moment of respite.

Working from home was life changing. No more commute. Less workplace shenanigans. Luckily it continues 2 days a week at home.

For those who miss lockdowns, I recommend them do a self-lockdown. Won't hurt. Enjoy it. There are enough people outside already.

It is why I decided to stay at the house in PKK except for a trip back to the condo to shop and doctors visits...

Yes selfish but I used every opportunity to travel during Covid times (before the grand opening in Oct).

Just went through my pictures and I was surprised myself how often I traveled.

I knew that this chance won't come back (hopefully some would say).

From Jun 2020 to Nov 22 I did ten trips to Pattaya, one combined with Samui, one with Phuket. Christmas in Phuket, New Year in Pattaya. Won't happen again.

And I regret no a single day.

The last trip in November refreshed memory about crowds, jams, delayed/expensive flights etc. etc.

It was certainly novel to have so few tourists around, but there is nothing else I miss about those heinous lockdowns. They decimated millions of lives, countless businesses were lost, and life was rough for many, and not being able to leave the country was awful. No, I would rather deal with some tourists, than have millions of Thais suffer the loss of tourism. The world is not just about me.

Surf was pristine, with more than few fish.  Even put my head / ears underwater without fear of infection ????

 

All those toilets not being flushed ... no worries ????

Same here East Pattaya.

I supported the street vendors and local markets more than usual but it was pretty much same same business for them.

Maybe my 40 baht noodles didn't make a tremendous amount of difference but maybe it helped?

I now eat a lot of street food.????????
