German expat killed in car accident in Pattaya, his young son survives

Pattaya — A German expat was killed while driving home with his kid in Pattaya at 10 AM Sunday morning, December 25th. His young son miraculously survived with minor injuries.

The accident occurred while the victim, whose name has been withheld pending embassy and family contact, a 62-year-old German national, and his young son were driving home on Sukhumvit Road near a U-turn in the Banglamung district of Chonburi. The victim was suspected to have blacked out at the wheel due to a medical emergency and crashed into a power pole.

 

Sawang Boriboon rescued the victim from his bronze Honda Jazz sedan registered in Chiang Mai.

If he had a medical condition that could make him blackout he shouldn’t of been driving , now his son is going to suffer for this , it’s a shame

Cardiac arrest?  Not something that you can always fortell.....

Looking at the damage of the car, he was not driving at 60km/hr (city speed).

My uncle was as fit as a fiddle until he blacked out as well while driving his car. Fortunately it was a Volvo, and both my uncle and aunt were lucky to walk away from the accident with minor injuries.

RIP to the driver and condolences to the family.

 

Given that the majority of damage is on the side wing of the vehicle on the passenger side and the passenger survived with minor injuries I would guess that the driver may have actually died of a heart attack or something.  The front drivers side didn't suffer much if any impact damage. Poor kid having to deal with his dad dying at Christmas, I really feel sorry for him.

He's the one that should now have all the help,  lived alone with his dad in Pattaya and had relatives in Nakhon Ratchasima province. This poor lad will be heartbroken its a life changing experience for him. Primary carer gone, school and school friends gone with a move up to Nakhon no doubt. Hopefully they will welcome him there but it worries me as theres obviously a reason he was alone with his now deceased dad

he  may have had a stroke at the wheel ,nothing you can do about that ,in the uk there's a stroke every 5 minutes
