Popular Post WaveHunter
Is there any way to control them? I mean, on a smart phone the ENTIRE screen gets filled with them. As soon as you click one to close it, two more appear! And it just goes on and on! All you can see on a tiny screen are ads overlapping each other, hiding the content of the forum! Even worse, the buttons to x them out are so tiny, trying to click them often s takes you to the he ad’s link on a new page !!! I realize that a forum like this needs ad revenue, and I have no problem with in line ads but these damn pop up ads every few seconds makes this forum COMPLETELY un-readable on a smartphone!, and incredibly annoying on the desktop since it makes the page jump to the ad!!!! Trying to compose a post with them constantly blocking your text as you try to write is a <deleted> pain in the butt! This really is gross overuse of pop ups like I’ve never seen anywhere. Is there some plug in or something that can control them? Edited February 7, 2023 by WaveHunter 5 1 3

Popular Post Jerno
Agreed, WaveH. Losing interest in this site because it's getting beyond distraction and now simply frustratiing. Think Aseannow can restrict ads if they want. Are they allowing or promoting it? 4

It is entirely up to them how many and what kind of ads they want. It seems they want a lot of all possible ads. Maybe there is some competition going on who has the highest amount of space covered with ads.

Popular Post herfiehandbag
I am getting really annoyed with that French bloke with a ginger beard who keeps appearing in his swimming pool trying to flog me some sort of internet business. Strikes me as a gallic "vendeur d'huile de serpent"! As others have said, I understand the desire for advertising revenue, but when the ads make the board effectively very difficult to use, as it has become of late, then it must become counter productive. I don't know how many French expats use this site, but I doubt that many are interested in old " barbe rousse"! 2

I can entirely understand that they use ads to provide revenue that pays for running such a forum. I'm sure it costs a lot, so ads are a way to pay for it and that's fair enough, but those damn pop-up ads make it hard enough to deal with on a desktop, but entirely impossible on a mobile device. I think they just need to STOP with those damn pop-ups and stick with inline ads. I mean, those pop are so annoying that I would NEVER buy anything from them just on principal if nothing else LOL! 3

Even on a large desktop screen, you have to open the browser full screen to find the cancel button. Popular Post WaveHunter
I thought there would be more people chiming in on this (and I hoped an Admin person would at least weigh in)...but it seems there are only a few of us that are upset by this. Oh well...I guess you get what you pay for LOL. I just can't imagine ANYONE actually responding to one of these ridiculous pop-up ads. There are so many of them, you can't even read the <deleted> ads because they overlap each other like these two for example: Even as ads, they serve no purpose!, considering this is an expat forum in which most members can't read Thai, and yet most of the ads are written entirely in Thai! I am viewing this on a 32 inch desktop screen, so there's plenty of real estate to format these ads properly so that they shouldn't interfere with actual posts. So, when they interfere with being able to read and write posts posts, it is being done intentionally just to force you to focus on advertisements,,,written in a language most members can not even read!. WaveHunter
As a business person, I think it's sheer suicide to use pop up's for advertising. There's nothing more infuriating than being on a website and being bombarded with those pesky things over and over! Who is going to reward that kind of tactic by giving them business? I remember in the early days, when we all relied on fax machines that used that special paper, there was some fax paper company that would send me sales messages on my fax machine several times a day using up MY fax paper trying to sell me THEIR fax paper! That's gotta be the stupidest sales tactic imaginable! Edited February 8, 2023 by WaveHunter

I already do that on YouTube. YouTube got crazy with silly pop up ads almost everytime you chose a new video to watch, and some that would even interrupt the video you were watching. It's the most disgusting advertising model that's ususally reserved for sex webstes and other super-scammy websites. It certainly does nothing to boost the credibility of a website, and only annoys and frustrates the viewer! YouTube allows you to opt out of that insanity for $10 per month with the first two months free I believe...and honestly it's worth the money! Aseannow would do much better to just offer an opt-out option for a slight monthly fee. I would pay it if it were a reasonable amount becuase Aseannow's use of these pop up ads is just OUT-OF-CONTROL! They would probably make more money by offering a "premium" opt-out option IMO. Popular Post Toolong
What (in my view) needs to be said about this has been very well said already, by others. One does appreciate the need for Aseannow to make the moolah to keep the site running, to develop it, expand, etc......but even for a site I feel priviliged to be able to use for free, accepting that ads are a part of the deal, this pop-up lark is getting beyond ridiculous. Sad. ???? 2

The static ads are accepted as we all realise how the forum works but the pop up ads are detrimental to the function of the forum, can the owner not see that ??, and surely are making posters spend less time here, I know i am. We are reminded occasionally not to use an Adblocker on the forum to gain revenue but that request has become an empty vessel as the forum becomes more and more unusable. 1

it is what it is
it's bizarre how much of the screen is now taken up by ads of one type or another. i understand the site need to generate revenue but there is a point at which the number and types of ads negatively impact the user experience, and users just take the hint and go elsewhere. with these pop up video ads i'm at my limit. either they stop them or the amount of time i can bear to be on the site will be considerably reduced. (i'm probably here too much anyway). up to them.
