Fanshawe Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 Operating System not found. I am not a computer expert. When I switched on my computer this morning the above notation was showing. Using Windows 8.1 on an Acer computer. Any help on how to get me up and running again would be appreciated. Thanks. 1
Mickeymaus Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 I would check the BIOS settings and at this occasion also if the CMOS battery needs to be replaced. It would be helpful if you could post the model number so that we have an idea if you have the old BIOS or the new UEFI BIOS already. 1
Mickeymaus Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 I will not be here later. But please check this https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23161_01/html/E37044/glsem.html Or look at the picture below. Should be for Acer. Check that you have here the correct settings.
connda Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 Take it to someone who knows what they are doing.
worgeordie Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 I would not advise you to go into the Bios , you can do a lot of damage if you don't know what you are doing ,take it to your local computer fix it shop and for 300 Baht +- they will sort it out for you. maybe get them to upgrade to Win 10 , more secure. regards Worgeordie 1 1
3NUMBAS Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 a rescue disk would be handy if you have one
lopburi3 Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 You are aware all support for that operating system ended on January 10 this year? Might be time to move to Windows 10.
Mickeymaus Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 OK. The hard drive or the data on it may be damaged. But a friend of mine had the exact same problem with an Acer all in one PC years ago. First I checked the BIOS and found that the date/time was incorrect. The CMOS battery was dead and all BIOS settings were reset to default values. Luckily I came across this BIOS setting shown in the picture below. It has been reverted to Legacy. I switched it to UEFI, then saved the BIOS and it booted with no problems. Now, I just can guess without your input. I don't know what BIOS version your computer has. I am writing this above to share with you my experience and perhaps avoid costly other things that might not have been necessary. Perhaps it is the same problem, perhaps not.
