One piece of advice. When questioned by immigration officer (may not be) .... Have a clear precise outline of your plans. Have hotel address on the ready to show. Book maybe ones pay at hotel . Don't bring a gf or other distractions into conversation. Have onward flight handy to show on screenshot etc Good luck. He cannot provide/show the 20k. He already stated that he has onward flight. Regarding rental contract that would actually harm his chances of entry. Strictly speaking, an IO has no right to insist on CASH as proof of funds for a traveller's living expenses but some IOs like to act dumb sometimes. Do you have your bank book with you? If not, do you have the bank's e-banking app on your phone so that, after landing in Bangkok, you can call up the statement of the balance onto your screen?
