I leave from Australia on 17th March. My Visa extension is due on 22nd May and I'm not sure I will be back to Thailand by that date.

Are there any special cases where I could do my Visa extension before I leave on the 17th March?

I have to get some scar tissue removed from my knee, so not sure when I can fly. 

Would rather get it done before I go. One less worry.

I believe you can get your yearly visa extension 1 month in advance.

Not sure if the Re-entry permit is attached to the old visa though ... you should ask.

I only know agents in Pattaya, maybe go to your Immigration office and ask them, can they do it early if you pay an extra fee (nudge nudge wink wink)

Yes, will go see them on Monday. ????

You can always start over, I did that one time.
Tourist visa on arrival  >>  Non-O 90 days  >>  12 month extension.

Some office will do extension 45 days In advance, good luck

45 days normal 
BUT if you go in with ur flight ticket an give them a story why ur heading home and wont be back in time. they might.......
