Daily News Thai Caption: Death manhole covers - danger in gas stations - keep watch (over children)

Daily News reported that the Krajok Ngao foundation had warned the public to keep a close eye on their children after a child called New Year fell down a manhole at a gas station.

The five year old girl went missing at the PTT gas station in Khorkho on the Surin to Buriram Road in north eastern Thailand. Her father had let her play behind the toilets. She was found dead in a septic tank.

Referring to the incident on their online page the foundation said that the father was selling goods at the gas station and had let his child play normally nearby.

A long search finally revealed the tragedy.

CCTV from afar showed the child jumping on several of five manhole covers before she disappeared.

The covers were thick plastic. The child fell three meters. There was no barrier to stop a child going into that area.

They warned that even though the child was nearby, danger can lurk everywhere and parents should not let young children out of their sight.

They advised gas stations to lock and check manhole covers and restrict access to such areas.

They expressed their condolences and said they hoped that such a tragedy would be the last.

Thailand is a non Nanny State. While ignorant westerners celebrate this fact, in truth it is a very lethal world out there. Good luck.

Had to get the builders back and show them how to fix the covers on properly.

They said it wasn't important.

People in the USA hate building inspectors. They have no idea that inspectors are protecting them from, well...
