Patong – An illegal bar on Bangla Road in Patong was raided uncovering underage prostitutes with six victims rescued. Two suspects were arrested who claim the real bar owner is a foreigner.

Last night (March 15th) a team from the Department of Provincial Administration raided a bar in Soi Sea Dragon on the Bangla Road.

The Department of Provincial Administration official told the Phuket Express the raid came after officials received complaints from the Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R) that the bar was allegedly operating a prostitution service with underage sex workers for foreign customers.

Taking business away from police controlled sex bars is a very serious offence ????

TIT where money and corruption is no 1 and law and order is swept under the carpet. Parents turn a blind eye because they benefit financially/the weight of police "law enforcement" depends on the weight of their brown envelopes. No prostitution but wall to wall bargirls.

Here we go with the 'not just Thailands', yes but Thailand is universally notorious for it since decades.

The "Rescue" of Six Underage Sex Workers...
If they were kept there without their consent and locked up without possibility to escape - that would be very very bad.

Just saying.

i would agree ..... they work there and send the money back to mama upcountry.  They aren't chained to the post or anything like that.

Where did it say they were 15 in the post? Under 19 is classed as underage in prostitution Thailand. The term "to young to concent" used yet in villages up and down Thailand girls 15 or younger marry all the time and sometimes to much older men. Young girls of the very poor are often sold into basic bondage to karaoke/bar etc. This has been thai cultural for hundreds of years. Right or wrong people should never judge through western culture eyes.

The full article, if read, clearly states that the youngest girl was 15 years old

If indeed there was a 15 year old girl working there, that would be reprehensible. There are laws against it, which should be followed.

The main emphasis of the article, that this bar was operating "unlicensed" for several months even though it is one of the most visible in Soi Seadragon, and the supposition that the secret shareholder is a foreigner (which still would mean that he must have majority Thai shareholders, unmentioned), all this directly under the nose of the police and that it was a different agency which had to do the raid...

I would not want to say that there were no underage girls there, but the whole circumstances leave me in some doubt. At a minimum, I am very sure that the information in this article contains some serious holes. Holes, that to my opinion are much worse than underage girls, bad as that is by itself, because they create the exact circumstances that make this possible without the need to have a care about the law.

I would be very surprised to see if this same place is not open within the next few days, with pretty much the same employees as before (minus the underage girl and maybe with a different sign outside).

from the sounds of it you didn't even read the attached link that details what happened.

and i quote....

Officials told the Phuket Express that they have rescued six underage female victims in a nearby hotel. The youngest victim is only 15 years old. They were taken into the National Referral Mechanism (NRM).
