Clever Thai police work traps perverted computer teacher; he'd paid off parents many times after sexual abuse of female teens

Thai Rath reported on the arrest of a 28 year old computer teacher at a coffee shop in Nakhon Sawan, northern Thailand yesterday.

 

He thought he was selling life insurance to a potential client - instead he found himself slapped with a warrant for his arrest for the sexual molestation of a child under 15.

 

Acting Sub-Lt Thanawat Iam-oat admitted it was his name on the warrant but denied the crime.

 

The case also contains an alarming element. The teacher had successfully paid off parents after complaints on many occasions.

 

But this time a grandfather had said "No".

 

Earlier this month Sunthorn Thongbai, the grandfather of a 13 year old girl at a school in Nakhon Nayok, central Thailand, had filed a report with the Ongkharak police after what had happened to his 13 year old granddaughter.

 

During lessons her computer teacher had repeatedly fondled her sexual organs. At one time he had even forced her to engage in oral sex.

 

The young teen kept this torture to herself until the shame became unbearable and she revealed it to her guardians.

 

The Onkharak police mounted an investigation but the suspect heard about it and fled to his hometown of Kamphaengphet in the northwest.

 

A warrant was issued on March 21st and the Onkharak police contacted the ATPD, Thailand's anti-human trafficking division.

 

The ATPD's Pol Maj Somrak Singda said that apart from being a computer teacher for hire the suspect also sells life insurance.

 

So a sting was set up in which officers posed as potential clients wanting to buy insurance.

 

It was arranged to meet the suspect at a coffee shop in a mall in Nakhon Sawan. He arrived in a vehicle.

 

The media said that Thanawat was "sabai jai" (not a care in the world) playing on his tablet and having a coffee when what he thought were his customers arrived.

 

Despite the suspect's denials police say they have plenty of evidence that Thanawat has sexually abused multiple numbers of young female students.

 

He paid off parents after complaints but the grandfather in this case could not be bought.

 

Police are checking whether the suspect has uploaded clips of a sexual nature for sale that could lead to further charges.

Parents or guardians are really part of the issue here, why in gods name do they except being paid off?

This just allows the pervert to continue on to the next victim.

I wouldn't say that, I'm always walking about carrying my 2 year old step granddaughter, in the middle of the village that isn't problem because the people know me but if we go to the outskirts I've often been stopped by people wanting to know what a falang is doing carrying a Thai child. She is shy of strangers so when they approach me she cuddles my neck and buries her head in my shoulder, that usually puts an end to the questions. People do watch out for children.
