Car bought and registered in Malaysia: how many days can it stay in Thailand?

Featured Replies

If I buy a car in Malaysia and enter Thailand with it, how many days is the car allowed to stay in Thailand? I'll enter Thailand with either a tourist visa or visa exempt.

30 days.

You Need to provide Malaysia Car Registration documents.

Car owner identifications.

After leaving Malaysia Immigration and Customs before entering Thailand Immigration, you park the car and purchase Vehicle Insurance valid for 30 days from Vendors just after Thailand Immigration and Customs.

You walk to clear Thailand Immigration with your passport. Thereafter you walk to the next counter to register for your Vehicle Permission to Enter Thailand (with all documents) at the Thailand Customs Office.

Easy process. Takes about 5 minutes.

According to the Thai customs website you have to deposit a bond in either cash or a bank guarantee. Did you have to do this and if so how was it calculated.

I enter from Malaysia either through Bukit Kayu Hitam or Padang Besar gateway.

No cash bond or bank guarantee required.

Done that Monthly before pandemic.

This is for cars that are coming from a lower tax area.  Cars are not cheaper in Malaysia.

Nice.

Is that the same as other bordering countries?
