I hear from whence you come, but this is not Sweden or Australia, it is a country where the rich are extremely rich with a high proportion of poor, where the highest marginal tax rate is fairly low on a world scale or at least compared to Australia, corruption is rife, where wages and conditions are terrible for many, and if a political party redistributes wealth in a tiny way I don't see it as a bad thing.

Redistributing wealth is always bad and there are no real poor people in Thailand. Look at the more socialist countries nearby: Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos they are doing much worse.
Thailand should lower the taxes that the poor people pay and very important the electric costs, gas, gasoline. Shrink the state. Take care that the rich pay their low taxes (often they wiggle out of these) and the surplus money invest in education, every MINT (mathematics, computer science, natural and engineering sciences) education/university should be free so poor people have a chance to educate themself.
Rethink import taxes...can't be that semi finished materials pay more import tax than finished products.

Definite vote buying but not much different than what happens in other countries where politicians promise money to certain groups.

Looking up the information, Thailand has approximately 58 million people over the age of 16.  This would cost 580 billion baht.  According to the big Bangkok newspaper, the fiscal 2024 Thai budget is 3.35 trillion baht with a deficit of 593 billion baht with the deficit being about 3% of GDP.  This giveaway almost doubles the deficit.

No need to look at other countries. The current government has already been giving welfare cards, etc...

"Deputy PM and Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP) leader Prawit Wongsuwon has vowed to raise the monthly state welfare payment to 700 baht and says he is ready to be prime minister if his party returns to government after the next election."

nice to see: Voting the more conservative party and slowly destroying the country, vs. voting the Oligarch party which promise to destroy the country faster.

I am not going to read all 4 pages posted, but I am curious if anyone can tell me -- isn't vote buying illegal?

Apparently because it doesn't involve giving money to the electorate out of the "Party's purse" and instead promises money from the prospective government (which would be the government budget from tax money), it is in fact legal. So by the fact that you are promising to pay after a certain electoral outcome instead of prior to the election, that makes it legal. I totally get your point it is like handing out "an IOU note" instead of cash. Shouldn't be allowed but apparently the devil is in the detail.

There are older people in the villages in rural Thailand who HAVE to exist on the 600 thb pension and subsidies as they have no choice.

When they die at least in the village where I live the Pu Yai Ban has a collection from everybody (including me) for their cremation. If according to you there are no poor people in Thailand why would this need to happen?

You obviously have no idea of the real life of the Thai people out in rural Thailand.

So these old people starved to death, right?
It is normal that dead people don't pay their on cremation....

I hope my wife is wise enough to not waste money on my dead body when I die.....

One additional question: how much did these old people pay into their retirement fonds? Zero? Did someone promise them a pension when they were young in 1960?

Promise me that you will wake up and try to understand the world

If the daily wage (assuming that you have a job) is about 380 thb nowadays what do you think it was in 1960?

50 baht a day? More? Less?

So how can you save for your future, even nowadays?

Company pensions in the west are paid into by the worker and by the government.

I am still not sure if you are a troll or simply mentally deficient.
