China said it was simulating "sealing off" Taiwan in a third day of drills as it appeared to use an aircraft carrier to launch jets towards the island.

Taiwan said it had detected jets to its east while China said its Shandong aircraft carrier had taken part.

Beijing began the exercises on Saturday after Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen met the US House Speaker in California.

So far however the drills are not as big as those that followed Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taipei last August.

Taiwan considers itself a sovereign state. China sees it as a breakaway province that will eventually be brought under Beijing's control - by force if necessary.

On Monday Taiwan said it had spotted another 70 warplanes and 11 ships in its surrounding waters.

Taiwan's military to get a $619 million U.S. arms boost as China keeps up pressure

The United States has approved the potential sale of $619 million in new weapons to Taiwan, including missiles for its F-16 fleet, as the island reported a second day of large-scale Chinese air force incursions nearby.

As for that laser weapon, it was delivered to the army in September of 2022 as part of a demonstration project. So apparently a prototype not yet in general use even in US forces.

Dress rehearsal for the invasion of Taiwan. Greenlit by Macron, a story that for some reason isn't deemed worthy of the "world" forum.

It was a Chinese aircraft carrier so whatever they like to call China in the process of claiming Taiwan as part of there territory. 

 

I don't get it really I thought anything more than 24 miles off a mainland coast is in international waters.

There's no evidence that it's even been incorporated into general use in the army. It was a very bad example.

So they don't have a China's men's chance of winning and they need Advanced weapons not outdated weapons to hold back China.

A nice intelligence bonanza imo I’m sure it’s beeing keenly observed by every sensor in the inventory a good read on their level of readiness in carrier operations they are new to the game remember great signals intelligence and their coding all in all an opportunity

As pointed out elsewhere you and they need to change their focus from big ticket items to asymmetric weaponry. The US has been pushing them in that direction.
