Surely the responsibility for this lies with the higher ups who allowed a junior staff member access to very sensitive information?

An official military response is that if they trust him to die for his country they should also trust him to hold its secrets safe. He is an adult. He will now become an example to those who would betray that trust.

Certainly not a surprise from Majorie Traitor Greene.

Apparently he ticked her boxes for support. White and Christian. The take away is that had he been black and Muslim she would not defend him.

Nice point. Is this an indication that folks now employed in the FBI, CIA, Secret Service, various police agencies etc., have little hesitation to reveal classified information?

Why would a leak from the Department of Defence be an indication of anything happening in "police agencies"? I don't get the connection.

Young and stupid, he has enough power to start world war 3. Heads must roll all the way to the top!

How long do you think it will be before Tucker Carlson and others start hailing him as a hero? The new Kyle Rittenhouse.

No doubt Tucker is working on such a treasonous rant as we post.

Don't tell em Pike.

Making an immature 21 year old the scapegoat is pathetic, regardless of his politics.

Heads need to roll at the top but I won't hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

Treating that 21 year old who swore an oath when he jointed the military as only a victim is also pathetic. The system is clearly bad and has been that way a long time. And it badly needs reform. That doesn't make your boy blameless.

I'm just stunned that such a low level National Guard even had access to this stuff.

He's a guilty as Hell, but the folks that allowed him access to this stuff should be locked up as well

Some more info on him:

Mr Teixeira worked as an IT specialist in the intelligence wing of the Massachusetts National Guard, based at Otis Air National Guard Base in western Cape Cod.

The National Guard is a reservist wing of the US Air Force. They are not employed full time in the military, but can be deployed when necessary.

Mr Texeira's official title is Cyber Transport Systems journeyman and he holds the rank of Airman 1st Class - a relatively junior position.

It is not clear what level of security clearance Mr Texeira had, but according to the Air Force website, employment in the role requires a single scope background investigation (SSBI). That clearance is reportedly required for access to top secret information.

And he was given a security clearance despite being a moderator of a chat group which existed to discuss current wars?

Whatever were the vetting people thinking of?

It is quite simply incredible!

The person who spoke to the AP says Teixeira was an observant Christian who often spoke of God and prayed with members of the chat group.

The chat group, called “Thug Shaker Central,” drew roughly two dozen enthusiasts who talked about their favorite types of guns and also shared memes and jokes, some of them racist. The group also included a running discussion on wars that included talk of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
