A Lao man has been arrested in Thailand for allegedly scamming a woman out of more than 3 million baht through a "Romance Hybrid Scam" involving cryptocurrencies.

The victim, a 42-year-old woman from Chiang Rai province, met the suspect on a dating app and was convinced to invest in trading cryptocurrencies with the promise of high returns, reported Daily News.

The suspect pretended to be a foreigner and even claimed to be ready to come and get married. The victim transferred the money eight times to the application and was persuaded to bring coins to trade in the application's store.

After losing the money, the man disappeared and could no longer be contacted.

Following an investigation, police found that the electronic wallets used in the scam matched the information of a registered individual named SINSONXAI XAIYASON, a Lao national who had fled the area.

Authorities have charged the suspect for acting fraudulently or deceitfully and entering into a computer system with distorted or false data, which could cause damage to the public.

The authorities plan to collect the suspect's property to return to the victim.

This case serves as a warning to be careful and vigilant when dealing with online investments and relationships.

Wow! Sounds too good to be true! It's amazing what greed will do to some!

These criminals are good now.  Its a different world now everyone has stopped using cash.  All the stores and houses are empty.  This man has worked hard to pull this off.  Good luck to you Laos man.

Why? Are Laotians no foreigners in Thailand?? Old story, greed and wishful thinking...

But since when do Thai women want to marry Laotian men?

Well done Sinsonxai.

Obviously a very bright lad.

I wonder if Sam Bankman Freid will do the same amount of jail time.
