1 day overstay

Hi

 

Just realised my 30 day visa exempt is one day short leaving Thailand.

 

Will I be asked to pay at Suvarbhumi?

Generally no fine for one day overstay.

You may still receive a stamp.

The 30 days is really 29 because entry day counts as full day even if you arrive at 11pm. Been told 1 day forgiven, 2 days they start charging baht.

I don't believe in overstaying  on purpose. 

Never have. There are "no consequences" Ever want an Elite visa ? The main reason is the effect it might have of one chooses to apply for a visa or enter a country other than Thailand. Many take overstay seriously. And and you kid yourself if you think they cannot identify Thai overstay stamps

As others have stated, there are no immediate consequences for a one-day overstay when leaving by air through one of the Bangkok airports. My own view is that overstays of any kind should be avoided if possible. They do become part of your immigration record. The wrong official can decide to make an issue out of minor overstays in the future in situations where officials are called on to exercise discretion. For instance, a year later when seeking a visa exemption after significant time on Thailand, an official might refuse you a visa exempt entry with the overstay being a contributing factor. Not probable, but best avoided.

Not at all, but I know some people on this site never travel to countries other than Thailand  How many times can you overstay one day and be allowed entry to the Elite Programme? I understand making an honest mistake but Basically I guess I am a "goody two shoes" who does not believe in committing crimes on purpose. 

 

Then there is the remote chance caught outside the airport on a bar raid or traffic stop whilst on self inflicted overstay. When so easily avoided, the mind boggles

Yes....an overstay could be one strike against a person....but for Elite visa purposes it appears it would take two strikes within a 3 year period to result in disapproval of an Elite visa application assuming below is correct.   See below weblinks/partial quotes to include a partial quote from the Thailand Elite visa application at the bottom.

We have been handling more in the recent aftermath of Thai Immigration enforcement regulation changes and we are seeing more and more as things progress.  Many are finding the Elite Program to be quite convenient especially for those who don't really fit into a category otherwise. This is younger retirees, folks under 50 who don't meet the age requirement for Retirement Visa status, various other kinds of entrepreneurs and business people that don't necessarily need to do business in Thailand, nor wish to do business in Thailand, but wish to base themselves in Thailand and not exactly in a tourist capacity. They simply want to let Thailand act to act as a hub as it were in order to maintain their status here, live here, perhaps travel rather frequently depending on their situation, but for the most part not really be engaged with the Thai economy in the traditional sense of living in Thailand. 

 

That being said, it has recently come to my attention that a couple of things are changing with respect to processing of Elite Visa applications; most notably the process has become a lot more stringent. The backlog has increased rather substantially and the requirements of the Immigration Officers who are adjudicating and vetting the applicants for an Elite Visa is just becoming more time consuming. Where once it took a couple of weeks now it's taking 4 to 6 and it's just taking more time. 

 

But something else came to my attention here recently when we were corresponding with Thailand Elite. To quote directly from prior correspondence with Thailand Elite directly. To quote directly: "Please note that those who have overstayed more than once in the past three years, even if the fine  has been paid, they will be rejected when getting the Elite Visa sticker affixed to the passport." So overstayed more than once in the past three years even if the fine has been paid may not be able to go ahead and enjoy the Immigration benefits associated with the Thailand Elite Visa. That is a substantial development.  We haven't seen that in the past and it would seem to denote stringent Immigration Policy being applied even with respect to the Thailand Elite Visa. A couple of other things which should be noted with respect to this issue is the fact that although one may not be able to get the Visa itself, the benefits may still be conferred. So for that reason it may be a problem for folks who are entering the Elite Visa unaware of this  regulation who can't enjoy the Visa benefit and they presumably I don't know if they necessarily be refunded or what for their joining of the Elite Program because the Elite Program is not exclusively a Visa issue. There other things that come attached with joining the Thailand Elite Program. 

So we will keep you updated as things progress but stand by because if we see anything else we will certainly report it and we will report it on this channel as soon as we can.

I accidentally overstayed by one day last December, forgetting that entry day is day #1, not day #0. When I arrived at the departure immigration desk they spotted it and sent me to the overstay desk so just go straight there and save yourself some queueing.

 

No fine, but they stamped my passport which I posted on here at the time.

 

I have subsequently visited again with no problems, although the IO did raise his eyebrows on arrival when he saw the stamp. I had no issues getting a 60-day visa for that latest visit.

Back in 2017 or so, i was fined 500 baht for one day overstay in Phuket.

Also had miscalculated.

Probably, the stamp will be ignored when you apply for a visa at a consulate. There is a small risk that the wrong official could take it into consideration. Unknowable.

I visited Buriram IO at the start of April  pointed out I was leaving Thailand 0ne day after my visa expires.  I was told I did not need to extend the visa as it was one day and I had a air ticket. 

 

When I went through the airport I told the IO  one day overstay and was told no problem. A second officer then checked my passport and told me no problem and no fine.

And you got a stamp in your passport saying you were overstay.
