webfact
By Tanakorn Panyadee Pattaya — An Indian-Thai couple has confessed to police that they were the ones who arranged a casino in a Pattaya hotel. They thought they could bribe law enforcement officers to turn a blind eye, Pattaya police said. The couple, Mr. Divyesh Ashokkumarr Pathar, 32, of Indian nationality and Ms. Sitranan Kaewlor, 32, of Thai nationality were arrested following a casino bust in Pattaya Monday, May 1st. Over 93 people were arrested, 83 of whom were Indians. They are still in police custody including the couple. During a two-hour police interrogation, Mr. Divyesh and Ms. Sitranan reportedly admitted that they saw a business opportunity in operating a casino targeting Indian tourists. The two said this was because while they had been engaged in the Indian tour business for more than five years, they noticed that Indian people like to gamble. Those two idiots took the bribery concept to a new level, to run such an operation and not get caught you need to be buddy-buddy with a hi ranking general or so and that they can bribe the foot/motorcycle police and get away with it, well, i guess they now better now.

An Indian and Thai couple were behind the recently busted Pattaya casino, which saw 93 people arrested early on Monday morning. The couple confessed to running the casino in a Pattaya hotel after being arrested, The Pattaya News reported last night. The couple, 32 year old Mr. Divyesh Ashokkumarr Pathar, 32, of Indian nationality, and 32 year old Ms. Sitranan Kaewlor, of Thai nationality, admitted to police that they thought they could bribe law enforcement officers to turn a blind eye. During a two-hour police interrogation, Divyesh and Sitranan reportedly admitted that they saw a business opportunity in operating a casino targeting Indian tourists. In response to a question of why they did not fear law enforcement, the couple claimed that they had paid two Thai men identified only as Phakin and Eak, who claimed they could bribe police to overlook their illegal casino operations. This is the 3rd day in jail for the customers. How are they at fault? They could have been told that casinos are legal in Thailand.

It is even worse. From the original article: "Responding to a question of why they did not fear law enforcement, the couple claimed that they had paid two Thai men identified only as Phakin and Eak who claimed they could bribe police to overlook their illegal casino operations. The couple stated that they had paid the two men more than 2.4 million baht for this service. However, it was later discovered that these claims were false and the men, who are still on the run, were just lying."

They could have been told that casinos are legal in Thailand. They're at fault for gambling when it is illegal. What they may have been told by the organisers is irrelevant particularly as there are no legal casinos in Thailand and the Indians would have known that.
