The same technology used at airports and shopping malls will now be deployed to confirm a person’s identity if they wish to withdraw sums of 50,000 baht or more, transfer more than 200,000 baht a day, or increase their transfer limit to more than 50,000 baht. Bangkok Bank has confirmed the move, in a text recently issued to customers. fusion58
Received the text from Bangkok Bank a few days ago. I went to the nearest branch today and was told I would have to come back again in 5-7 business days because my (new) passport number didn't match their records. Wonder what sort of hoops I'll be asked to jump through next?

Popular Post PremiumLane
Is this going to be a case of "farrang don't need to do" and then when you do want to withdraw more than 50,000, or transfer more than 200,000 you can't because you aren't registered via Thai id number? Wonder what sort of hoops I'll be asked to jump through next? Do you have a Thai pink ID card? I was recently at a big K Bank branch, the supervisor was hovering around, she noriced my pink ID card. She politely said, advanced English, when you have finished this matter please change you rID number from your currnt passport to the pink ID card because it will then be good for lifetime. She also mentioned the bank (I guess all banks) had been instructed to promptly chnage to using pink ID card numbers instead of passport number (where the foreigner has a pink ID card of course). A week later I did a transaction at BBL, I asked the teller to change my ID number from passport to pink ID card number, she promptly called the supervisor, my ID number changed to pink ID card number quickly. Supervisor politely mentioned that all banks are experiencing much increased serious problems with fraud and misuse of ID processes and customers can expect more changes to ID matters coming soon. My Thai adult son asked her 'do you mean for foreigners or Thai citizens'? Her response was 'everybody', then she continued, 'we have to use a consistent system for all customers and the reality is that the level of fraud etc., is much higher re Thai customers compared to foreigner customers'. Popular Post new2here
I’ve got at least one basic passbook savings accounts at each of the big 5 (a few i have more accounts at BBL and KBank) and each account is at the same location - Siam Paragon Yesterday I stopped by each branch to ask/get it done.. Bangkok Bank- the easiest. They had one staff who essentially was the “verification photo” person. Before me were several Thais - and they were processed the same as me. I could see the screen as she processed it. SCB- Said, after calling their internal service center - that foreigners aren’t required. Branch manager said that she felt the answer was incorrect but that she didn’t see a way to get it done in their system at that moment. She suggested that I try again maybe late month. Krungthai - System not ready. Did say that yes, everyone will need to get it down eventually, but right now today, it’s not yet ready. The manager (who i’ve known personally for a few years) took my number and said that she’d monitor it matter and call me when I can come back. KBank - Said that foreigners aren’t required to. Like SCB, staff in-branch suspected this might change later on, but for now, not possible. Krungsri - Easy and done within 5 minutes .. said it’s required for everyone - citizenship not withstanding. Just my own experiences from yesterday. Edited May 3, 2023 by new2here 7 2

Popular Post RobU
Interesting, To get this facility you have to get your photo taken at the bank branch I am disabled, my nearest branch of Bangkok Bank is in Phon Phisai, Nong Khai District. A Beautiful building with 2 long flights of stairs to enter because the main entrance is on the second floor (i.e. 3rd floor for Americans) No handrails whatsoever on the first flight no way for elderly or disabled customers to get into the building Many Bangkok Bank branches are inaccessible This policy is designed to make life difficult for elderly and disabled people Edited May 4, 2023 by RobU 4 1 1

Just thinking outside the box if you will.

I went to the main Bangkok Bank in Silom to renew an ATM card and get one with Mastercard instead of the 'default' Union Pay. I had a new passport, and had to sign my name something like 15 times. And the assistant that served me clearly hated dealing with trouble-making foreigners like me as he dealt with all their red tape. So be prepared for pain, and take sandwiches. 1

Popular Post Skeptic7
Went into Bangkok Bank near Jomtien Immigration yesterday to do this very thing. The security guy handed me a queue ticket. There were about 15 people before me and the numbers were not advancing. 3 people had enough and departed. I walked outside to the guy and told him I just needed a photo taken. OH go upstairs, he said. Was upstairs and finished in 15 minutes. Needed PP and bank book. Be sure to state your purpose for being there, otherwise will waste your time waiting for number to be called (which was looking like an hour minimum), THEN you will be directed upstairs. Had I not mentioned it, would have been there a totally unnecessary extended period instead of in and out in 20 minutes. A polite young very junior member of staff was then sent down to assist me I doubt very much they would make any effort to use a laptop 1
