Dog food, what do you feed your dogs ?

Heart Smart, Roast beef flavor.

 

Left over Chicken, Rice, and whatever.

 

Prices have gone up quite a lot.

 

Soi Dogs are much cheaper as they'll eat anything even there own dog cra*.  

 

My wife likes dogs, I could care less.  Once the two pass away, no more pets.

It is called Tops Club here and sells Costco house brand items and first store is 15,000 square meters (Costco average size is 13,000 square meters)

Those chicken bone things on a stick for about 10 baht, Cut that up and mix with rice and fish sauce. Dog loves it and cleans the bowl.

 

Embarrassingly, he doesn't like the crunchy dog food but loves the crunchy Cat food.

 

One day crunchy cat food & next day chicken and rice and so on. ????

Because the thread was about dog food and suspect OP from Isaan,  Yes this just opened in Bangkok on Rama 2 but suspect others will follow (Central Group).

Our 4 dogs all get Royal Canin Dry food twice daily. Not cheap, but premium dog food brands (such as Royal Canin or Hills) give definite benefits for dental health, skin and general health. The other benefit is that the better  quality feeds generally have less residue - meaning less landmines in the yard to clean up!

We have about a dozen dogs, all have come off the street having suffered from injury and starvation, a balanced diet would hardly be a priority to them.

I suspect the 60 odd cats we have from similar circumstances would be of a similar opinion.

Rice with fish twice a day has provided most with many more years they continue to eat like it could be the last time.

I was providing some insight into dog food world. Just like anything else it comes down to priority and price. It ranges from eating something to stay alive to a diet recommended by specialists. What you’re doing is highly commendable and the food you give them works well for you and them.

The Costco here are called makro the one in Khon Kaen isn’t far from the bus terminal and immigration office in Khon Kaen I don’t have the exact address but if you went on Google maps to find the bus station or immigration you can search around and find makro I think there’s a cockpit tyre depot nearby as well.

Mix dry dog food with wet dog food. Usually buy dry dog food in 20kg bags and whatever canned wet food has a deal on it.

 

We have two medium sized mixed breed "farm dogs" and go through 15 cans of wet dog food and 20kg dry food per month, approximately.

My five dogs get a mix of meat from Makro (frozen beef or chicken scrapings @ 40 Baht a kilo) and biscuits. We use SmartHeart 7+ for older dogs. My maid adds the odd egg or veggies a couple of times a week. 20kg bag lasts 16 days and we use 500 grams of the meat each day, so five dogs cost under 100 Baht a day to feed. They range from 18 kg to 36 kg, but are all in good shape according to our vet.

I buy 1 kg dog meat bags from Makro here in sunny Nonthaburi. They are under 40 Baht a bag last time I checked.

Wife cooks everyday for him.............. pork or beef plus vegetables.....she rolls this up into to sticky rice balls and hand fees him as he lies on the sofa......I have to make my own food.

We have 2 soi dogs from Pattaya, who are now 12 years old and as we relocated to Isaan on our Farm, another 2 Soi Dog Puppies with their mother decided to make make up a gang.

I believe in the saying, the dog choses his owner, so we decided to keep them and they really get along with our two old bones.

 

They all like Pedrigee and Smart Heart canned food occassionally, but mainly they all prefer dry food from Smart Heart.

Got 4 ex soi dogs . Mother and two surviving pups ( now adult plus another stray pup that snuck in last December.

 

Various things on their menu . Dog feed ( Bok Dok ) with rice ( wife cooks Jasmine rice for them every morning.)

 

The above staple then mixed with any one of the items on their menu :

 

Fried chicken carcass

Boiled chicken carcass

Chicken livers ( discounted )

Chicken heart s ( discounted )

Pork livers ( discounted )

Sardines

Minced chicken carcass fried

cheap discounted sausages

look chin moo

left over scraps

 

In addition they often go shopping in the fields surrounding out house and come home with a pigeon , a field rat , a squirrel , a dead kitten or a dead chicken.

 

The latest addition that checked in with us in December last. Had to buy him a vest as at the time he was undernourished and losing hair which left him shivering at night. Also improvised a dog basked with which he was much taken. Wife named him Copper ...Tong deng

We have 40 dogs and feed 60+ every day. In the morning, it is 3+ kilos of liver that the wife cooks up. In the evening we buy 10 chopped up chicken bodies. We add purple BokDok dry food to each meal for our "falang" dogs (huskies) and rice for the rest.

We have tried all the different types of dry dog food and only BokDok is enjoyed by every dog.

Buy pork liver from Makro, cooked with cracked rice from the mill and chicken stock from boiling the bones. Good for weened puppies to elder dogs.
