Former UK PM Liz Truss urges Rishi Sunak to class China as 'threat' to UK security

Former prime minister Liz Truss has made a personal plea for Rishi Sunak to brand China as a "threat" to UK security during a visit to Taiwan.

The ex-prime minister challenged Mr Sunak to deliver on pledges he made last summer to clamp down on China.

Ms Truss made the speech in Taipei City on Wednesday, making her the first former prime minister to visit Taiwan since Margaret Thatcher.

The Chinese Embassy called Ms Truss's visit "a dangerous political stunt".

It added that the visit "will do nothing but harm to the UK".

In the speech, Ms Truss urged the West not to work with China, warning that totalitarian regimes "don't tell the truth".

She drew comparisons between the tensions between China and Taiwan, and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Liz Truss's 49 days as Prime Minister were a joke. The only thing she managed to achieve was for her own personal benefit; she stole bathrobes and other paraphernalia from Chequers (source below).

She has no business in Taipei, and she shouldn't have been there. I suspect she was persuaded to make some noise on behalf of Boris, as we have seen many of his cronies in recent days making headlines about how the current conservative leadership is ruining things: Priti Patel, Nadine Dorris & Jacob Rees Mogg all piled on this week.

Well done Liz. The leftist apologists for the brutal communist Chinese regime will criticize you but you are absolutely correct.

Of course the #bekind lefties will be moaning that such a stance could cost the uk 0.045% of GDP or something but just like they demonstrated with Brexit they only care about money, not principles.

‘Leftist apologists for the brutal communist regime’.

What on earth triggered that.

Truss is addressing her comments to Sunak.

Sunak is a Tory.

Whenever Truss criticizes China the usual left wing posters side with China and denigrate Truss. Given China's human rights record it is absurd, but that is the lunacy of the left.

I guess left wing extremists put socialist ideology ahead of human rights. Sad.

She might be right. Just a shame that she didn't practice what she preached when she was in office.

Again more triggered ‘left wing’ with zero evidence.

Erm, let’s have some facts:

It is not a case of pick your side - it is recognising that a politician of genuinely staggering incompetence and a total lack of self-awareness is parading herself on the world stage, in one of the most fragile of geopolitical spats, as if she is Kofi Annan, whereas the reality is that she is very, very out of her depth. You don't send a clown to perform open heart surgery. She has no business there.

I suppose it's best everyone just ignores what is happening?

Britain is no longer in Europe, and this means it's of vital importance that a big and comprehensive trade deal with China must be agreed and signed.  A British ex-prime minister turning up in Taiwan is simply antagonising Chinese in Beijing, it's going to diminish Britain's position in front of China. This visit by this blonde woman is disastrous for Britain.

You go on about human rights in China ?  Let's all be honest. If China wants to butcher Chinese in China, well, let them do it. Who cares ?  If America or Britain sends soldiers to China, to prevent Chinese killing Chinese, well, what's the point ?  If one American or British soldier dies to prevent ten or twenty people in China being killed, that's still a waste of an American or British soldier.

Let them do it.  Same as Middle East types fighting each other. Or Africans fighting other Africans.  Why on earth waste our money and waste our own soldiers' lives, for what ?

We are still in Europe - check the map Bro. No longer in the EU though. I would hope you understand the difference.

What’s your issue with “blonde women”? Expensive divorce? Or simply another misogynist exposed ?

We don’t have to stop their behaviour with military force but we don’t need to get into bed with them economically either. That would be hypocritical, we should leave that type of hypocrisy to left wing governments. The Conservatives should remain above that.

You ignore the fact that this Conservative Government sells arms to repressive regimes such as Saudi Arabia?
