Some Republican politicians and officials fanned out Sunday to denounce Donald Trump over his handling of classified documents but also to question the motives of the US justice department in bringing an unprecedented 37-count indictment against the former president.

Former New Jersey governor Chris Christie, who announced a run for the Republic presidential nomination last week, called Trump’s conduct outlined in the criminal charges “deeply disturbing”, adding that “we have to have a full trial here and fair one”.

Stupid is as stupid does....

 

 

Is  the GOP party suffering from mass psychosis?

 

It is not possible to resolve the inconsistencies of their contradictory values, one in accepting that Trump engaged in criminal activities yet questioning DOJ for prosecuting them.

 

Cognitive dissonance comes to mind.

 

 

 

If you accept that he unlawfully took highly classified documents, denied that he had done so and retained them, it is difficult to see how if you accept that you can oppose him being charged.

 

Unless you think that as an ex President he is above and beyond the law.

 

Personally I think that the US needs to take a long hard look at how they manage and track classified documents. You would have thought (hoped) that somehow someone would notice for example, that copies of plans to attack Iran had gone astray!

 

First port of call of course the Internet, just to make sure that some Lance Corporal in the National Guard hadn't put them on Facebook to impress his friends, then check the classified document register (presumably they have one - unless it has been rendered superfluous by new technology) to see who had them last. As you cross your office to the secure room to get the register be careful not to trip over the briefcase containing the nuclear launch codes that nice chap with the crewcut left in your office...

You can fix security and document control by throwing more money at it with increased technology and staff.

 

But this will not address the basic flaw here and that is the lengths that the Grand Old Party will go to, to remain relevant and in power.

 

They have lost their moral compass and are now in an existential crisis having sacrificed their principles to support indicted Trump and even indicted Lance Corporal Texiera.

 

The GOP endorsed Trump as a POTUS candidate in 2015 even when his potential criminality was common knowledge in the law enforcement community.

 

The GOP deemed he was fit to run the most powerful country in the world yet he had previously been denied a casino licence for his known mafia connections.

Things will change once the Georgia and insurrection conspiracy indictments are in. The almost daily addition of new GOP candidates despite the overwhelming poll odds in Favor of Trump signals that they know this. Presidential candidates have their fingers on the pulse when it comes to insider information.
