Another injured victim steps forward following escalator accident at Bangkok airport

Ten days prior to the incident involving a woman losing half of her leg at Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok, a young boy experienced an escalator mishap that resulted in his foot getting trapped underneath. Fortunately, the boy made a successful recovery after receiving 11 stitches.

 

A Thai woman on Wednesday lost her leg after she collapsed on the escalator at Don Mueang Airport. The doctor told the victim and the media that her leg could be reattached. Despite this positive development, the woman remains in a state of shock. She reportedly cried when seeing her news go viral on social media.

 

Following the woman’s unfortunate fall, a number of Thai netizens and news outlets reported similar cases from the past in order to raise awareness and caution the public about the potential dangers associated with escalators.

The Facebook post of a Thai man who fell victim to the escalator in 2019 went viral on Thai social media once more following the woman’s story.

Well past their sell by date.

The wee lads shocking injury was a taste of what was to come, but as usual our hosts did naff all and then the awful injury to the lady just recently followed.

The walkway has yellow lines on each side. Maybe, like road markings and pedestrian crossings, the locals think they're there for decoration. Maybe they are entirely unaware that the lines are a warning to keep off them and stand further in on the walkway or escalator. That way, you don't get your foot trapped in the side. Simples. This case is an example of poor parenting, guilty of what you say - Thailand safety always last. Don't blame the manufacturer. Blame people with no common sense.

Should a walkway/escalator/whatever not be "Monkey Proof"?

I had engineered several items in my carreer and all of them required a "Monkey Proof" test.

PS.: Not saying that Thais are equal to Monkeys.

Agree , as seen in hotel balcony heights , broken pavements , scaffolding without enough boarding or handrails , lack of driving skills etc etc etc .

The child accident appears to be on an escalator NOT a travelator.

Shoe laces, long fringy pant legs, etc. can all get stuck in there everywhere on the planet and have.

40% of 17,000 = 6,800

 

Can check them for safety but there will likely always be accidents & malfunctions.

You don't have children, do you? They move pretty fast and often don't listen. Nothing to do with poor parenting or no common sense.
